Two polls on the governor's race came out this week -- both automated phone polls -- that showed U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra with a lead over his four GOP rivals.
Inside Michigan Politics and Practical Political Consulting teamed up for a poll of 303 Republicans and 188 Democrats that showed Hoekstra ahead with support from 21% of the people surveyed. He was followed by Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder with 15%, Attorney General Mike Cox and Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard with 10% each, and state Sen. Tom George with less than 1%.
The same poll showed House Speaker Andy Dillon leading in the Democratic primary with the support of 14% of the people polled, and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero with 10%. In both races, undecided voters represented the vast majority, with 76% of Democrats unsure who they'll support and 44% of GOP voters undecided.
In another survey, of 742 people done by Magellan Strategies, Hoekstra led with 26%, followed by Snyder with 20%, Cox with 16%, Bouchard with 11% and George with 2%. Both polls were done before Cox picked up the influential endorsements of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and Michigan Right to Life.
