Strickland picks up NRA endorsement
(CNN) – Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat, picked up the support of the National Rifle Association Monday, offering voters a reminder of his culturally conservative views as he battles Republican John Kasich in a difficult re-election bid.

It's the NRA's first general election endorsement of the 2010 cycle.

"Our members will interpret your 'A+' rating and endorsement as an indication that you are a pro-Second Amendment, pro-hunting candidate who supports sportsmen and gun-owners on every issue," said Chris Cox, the chairman of the NRA's Political Victory Fund, in a letter to Strickland provided to CNN by a source familiar with the decision.

In backing Strickland, the NRA cited his vote while in Congress against the 1994 assault weapons ban.

1. Good
Ted understands the importance of hunting in the Appalachian area of Ohio. His brother does a great outreach to hunters on Ted's behalf.

2. However....
"Consider Democrat Strickland. The governor said he'll sign a lunatic Senate concealed-handgun bill if the House, too, passes the measure and sends it to Strickland's desk.

The bill would let people with concealed-weapons permits carry handguns in bars and other places with Ohio liquor permits. The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police opposes that. The association said in legislative testimony it "has consistently opposed this from the beginning of the debate because alcohol and guns do not mix."

5. I can support the change as long as
they make it a one year felony for violating the drinking part. Carry in a bar, drink, lose your guns for life, lose freedom for a year.
