Axelrod: Greene win 'doesn't appear' legitimate
A top Obama administration adviser Sunday cast doubt on the legitimacy of Alvin Greene's Senate Democratic primary win South Carolina.

Asked if Greene's victory was legitimate, Senior White House Adviser David Axelrod said, "It doesn't appear so to me. The whole thing is odd. I don't know how really to explain it. I don't think anyone else does either."

Axelrod's comments come after House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) suggested last week that Greene's candidacy was a "plant" and called for an investigation.

"How he won the primary is a big mystery. Until you resolve that I don't see how you can claim to be a strong candidate," Axelrod said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

1. maybe O'Keefe was behind it. I can envision him in the shadows
off to the side during Greene's interviews, coaching Greene's answers,
dressed in his pimp suit & dark glasses, thinking he is very clever.

2. It's so obvious it has to be someone like O'Keefe.
Apparently it was Greene's lawyer off camera coaching him during KO's interview last week.

4. there was another interview, as I recall, and even more pronounced that someone
was there feeding him answers. I am sure I saw another video of that but no idea where.

6. On my way home today I was switching stations and I happened on Mark Levin interviewing Green.
Edited on Mon Jun-14-10 08:16 PM by Beacool
I was actually surprised that Levin didn't go after him. He conducted a straight forward interview. Green was one of the worst candidates running for any office that I have ever heard in my life. Levin asked him simple questions, he even tried to help the guy out, but it was excruciating. He didn't know why he was running, how he intended to help create jobs (the main point of his campaign) and the pauses between questions were huge. It was painful to listen to the poor man.

10. I just listened to the Mark Levin interview
Wow, that part near the end of the interview when Levin asked him who his opponent is and he refers to talking points written down and starts reading them.

If you want to hear the intervew go here.

12. Thank you.
I was really shocked at how inarticulate Green was, even though Levin went quite easy on him (particularly considering what a rabid conservative he is and how he can go off on people). I think Levin was stunned because after the interview he didn't say much other that DeMint was the luckiest politician in the country.

7. I wonder if DeMint wasn't really as safe as thought to be
The GOP isn't going to waste time putting plants in safe seats, that makes no sense. Campaigns have internal polling, perhaps the NRCC and DeMint saw something problematic.

11. Five Thirty Eight had a really good article about the race over the weekend
and they were speculating that Rawl vs. DeMint was really too close to call, so DeMint had reason to worry about going against him in the general.

8. This is ridiculous.
The professionals got beat and now they are pouting. Greene may be a poor candidate but he got 59% of the vote. So he is the candidate and people have to live with it.

9. How could a good ol' boy, career politician, lose to an "unqualified" black man?
Ask this guy:

13. Please, even I would say that the comparison is insulting to Obama.
You have to hear Green speak.

16. I've heard him speak.
I don't use speaking ability as a measure of qualifications. He seems very nervous, still trying to adjust to the spotlights, press crews, and everybody crawling all over his life.

Come to think of it, McCain (and others) didn't think that Obama's public speaking should be considered an important qualification for politics. :D

14. Actually in a SC democratic primary the African-American vote is actually a large percentage
of turnout. Also, Obama is hardly unqualified.

17. I put the word in quotes for a reason....
Don't worry, if he dresses snappier, I'm sure Greene will be called an "empty suit". If he gets better at public speaking, he will be called "all talk, no work".

Let me know when this starts sounding familiar...
