Why is Dick Cheney silent on the oil spill?
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 08:24 AM by Rosa Luxemburg
So what's going on with Dick? You would think with all his expertise he would be offering advice?

The former vice president is usually a vociferous defender of his time in government. But not on the disaster in the Gulf.

Dick Cheney defending his record on national security at the Gerald R. Ford Foundation last year.
When the Obama administration, or the media, or just about anybody contradicts Dick Cheney's views on national security, he is far from shy about responding. But, facing a firestorm of criticism over the oil spill, he's been notably silent.

More than national security, energy policy and the oil industry might be considered Cheney's real areas of expertise. He was chairman and CEO of oil services company Halliburton between 1995 and 2000. And, of course, he worked prominently on energy policy as vice president from 2000 to 2008.

Halliburton was working on the Deepwater Horizon rig just before it blew up, opening the well and sending oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. Some experts have speculated that the company may have been to blame for the explosion. The pro-oil atmosphere (and Cheney's continued links to Halliburton) during his vice presidency, have also come to the fore since the accident, on April 20.

1. Hey, look over there! The less we see of him, the less he
will remind us of Halliburton. It appears to be working, at least with a lot of the media.

Energy Bill and was CEO of Halliburton? Cheney is not stupid. He is lying low, hoping none in the media talk about him.

3. He hasn't been silent. He's sent Liz out to defend him
and to deflect the conversation in other directions. It's as obvious as it can be.

9. to clarify: he has the POWER to avoid being questioned when he'd rather avoid the discussion
just like his super secret energy task force meeting, where they plotted to invade Iraq BEFORE 9/11 and split up the oil between BP and Halliburton....

8. He'd be happy to offer advice -- at a huge "consulting" fee, to be sure.
After all, this is his company's work product. Why give it away? He was happy to bash Obama left and right about how he was handling the war, but anything he says now will have to part of a profitable "consulting" contract.

14. Has he even returned from Saudi Arabia?
http://motherjones.com/mojo/2010/05/why-was-dick-cheney-in-saudi-arabia-oil-halliburton-logan-act-riyadh

-------------------------------------------------------
Foreign Policy's David Kenner pointed out Monday that former vice president and ex-Halliburton CEO Dick Cheney just went on a junket to meet with Saudi Arabian leaders, a quiet pow-wow that's been discussed in the Saudi media but not so much over here. Cheney—who's been busy defending torture and complaining that Barack Obama lets world leaders "think they're dealing with a weak president"—weakened the president by visiting a leading torture regime and its caliph, King Abdullah.

So, what was the ex-veep doing in Riyadh?
{snip}

Look, it could be nothing. Richard Cheney, whether he's a nice guy or not, whether he's right or not, is entitled to his travels and meetings. And he's probably got a lot more friends in that desert-straddling medieval-style theocracy than he does in these United States. The least he could do is keep his countrymen in the loop. But hey, why start now?
-------------------------------------------------------

I look every day for news on him, and this is the last known sighting of him. I am glad someone else in the media is at least beginning to ask these questions that Mother Jones amd Foreignpolicy.blog asked well over a month ago. Since then it's been crickets, until now.

We don't even know if he is in the United States.

Logical to get it there. Super secrecy and he probably was able to get a 20 yr old heart on the black market there for less than anywhere else.

40. You meant to say he's getting a real heart, cause the one he had before
was not a heart at all, but only a voracious appetite to suck up as much money as he could while ruining our nation and screwing up the world.

.... they dont have a better solution either. It's the perfect chance to score one on the President at his weakest moment .... and yet they're doing nothing.

Because there's nothing that can be done that isn't.
