Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani backed South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster for governor Monday, giving the prosecutor a high-profile endorsement less than 24 hours before voting begins in the Republican primary.
Giuliani, who first gained national stature as a U.S. attorney and Justice Department official, praised McMaster as a model conservative lawyer.
"Whether it's leading the fight against President
Obama's takeover of health care, prosecuting Internet predators, recovering millions of taxpayer dollars, cracking down on domestic violence and standing up for the Constitution, Henry has shown that he is a conservative leader who can get things done," Giuliani said.
Polls have shown McMaster battling for second place in the GOP nomination fight with Rep. Gresham Barrett, and both men have trailed state Rep. Nikki Haley in recent polling. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has lagged behind, in fourth place.
