Shocking amount spent on GITMO - why wasn't it closed sooner?
In case you missed this? If people have are worried how much universal healthcare will cost then they should look the waste at GITMO. The Pentagon has been out of control. Shocking!

and of course the Halliburton subsidiary. Kellog, Brown and Root (KBR) has made a lot of money out of it. KBR made millions out of Iraq. The war on terror and making money for Halliburton. Insentuous.

2. House Armed Services Committee had better think again
these so called terorists are no worse than the average murderer. They shouldn't be let out. Why can't they be held in an ordinary jails in confinement? They don't need to be all in the same jail.

3. I agree with you; I don't know what they are thinking, or why
they think this is a good idea. I recall that a lot of people would have been employed if the cost of the prison in the US had been approved. Guess that's not a good enough reason.

6. Ironically, I think it was the cost...
oh, and also the across-the-board whine from rethugs.

“The committee firmly believes that the construction or modification of any facility in the U.S. to detain or imprison individuals currently being held at Guantanamo must be accompanied by a thorough and comprehensive plan that outlines the merits, costs and risks associated with utilizing such a facility. No such plan has been presented to date,”

8. why does it have to be one facility?
There are Supermax and ultramax facilities in jails throughout the US. There really isn't anything more horrific about them than many of the high security inmates.

9. Makes no difference-- I was reading constant reports last year...
about how localities were whipped into frenzied terror about how they would be "terror targets" if any gitmo detainees were moved there.

There was so much local and congressional opposition that Obama&Co basically gave up on the idea.

11. Other countries don't have a convenient Gitmo. At least the...
civilized ones don't. Devil's Island and the early "settlers" of Australia are almost ancient history now.

But, don't forget those other dungeons around the world we used for rendition. Maybe we're not the only ones who used them.
