Presidential Proclamation - America Recycles Day
President Obama proclaimed November 15 America Recycles Day. Celebrating its 12th year, the day marks the opportunity for millions of Americans to pledge to increase their recycling habits at home and buy products made with recycled materials. You can participate by attending
a recycling event, or sign the online pledge and use the handy Conversionator to calculate the impact your recycling is having on the planet. Did you know every 3 foot stack of newspapers saves a tree?

Seroiusly, I'm for Obama's proclamation.

8. I can bitch plenty
I've been recycling for almost 40 years.

I've recycled even when it meant loading up my car once a month and driving over a mountain to the nearest recycling center. (Well, a small mountain. This is eastern Pennsylvania, after all.)

I sometimes suspect I'm wasting more energy with the hot water to rinse out my cans and bottles than I'm saving by recycling them.

But I keep doing it anyway.

And it hasn't made a damn bit of difference.

All the recycling in the world isn't going to save the planet from what really ails it.

So what do we do about that?

9. I cut my garbage in half
It really is amazing how much there is once you get going. I have a 3 tier bin and sort it out that way, although I don't think my recycler really cares. It's a lot easier than it used to be too.

10. I mentioned this at work today..that yesterday was
National Recycling Day by Presidential Proclaimation!

We started talking about how in our neck of the woods we seem to be reclying more than other areas that we hear about..i.e.Minneapolis and some parts of Colorado.

I'm sure you recycle a lot out there in Cal, right, sandnsea?

11. I'm in Oregon
But yeah, most towns have a recycling program here and probably Cali too. I think people are used to recycling glass and plastic, but not so much for paper and cardboard. I've just started undoing the boxes and folding them flat, that makes it so easy to stick them in the crate. I still toss a lot of household junkmail though. I need a system for that.

13. We can recycle it
They'll take dang near everything curbside. I just notice a lot of people only recycle glass and plastic around here. I'm guessing it's because paper and cardboard stack up faster, but maybe there's some other reason. I think we've had our curbside program about 8 years or so.
