NV-Sen: Teabagger leads GOP field, Harry Reid back from the dead
Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 5/31-62. Likely voters. MoE 4% (4/26-28 results)

Republican Primary MoE 5%

Sharon Angle (R) 34 (13)
Sue Lowden (R) 25 (38)
Danny Tarkanian (R) 24 (28)

Ouch. These numbers are similar to Suffolk numbers released today. Sue Lowden was riding high, queen of the world against two little-known irrelevant opponents. Then she opened her flap, ranted on and on about chickens, took illegal gifts from her supporters, spent general election money illegally on the primary, and now she's en route to a third-place finish in next week's primary.

Angle is quite the nut, a female version of Rand Paul, and as she's risen among Republicans, the rest of the state has had a chance to check her out as well. And the results aren't pretty.

General Election

Harry Reid (D) 43 (41)
Sharon Angle (R) 37 (44)
Scott Ashjian (TP) 2 (5)

Harry Reid (D) 42 (41)
Sue Lowden (R) 38 (45)
Scott Ashjian (TP) 2 (4)

Harry Reid (D) 43 (41)
Danny Tarkanian (R) 39 (43)
Scott Ashjian (TP) 2 (6)

Favorable/Unfavorable

Reid (D) 40/52 (37/53)
Angle (R) 38/41 (41/29)
Lowden (R) 39/40 (42/34)
Tarkanian (R) 40/38 (44/33)

Nevada really wanted to fire Harry Reid. Then they took a gander at his opposition, and suddenly even he is looking pretty good in comparison.

But the April trend lines don't even show just how far the GOP field has fallen. Let's go back to our January poll of Nevada:

Harry Reid (D) 42
Sue Lowden (R) 51

Harry Reid (D) 41
Danny Tarkanian (R) 52

Reid (D) 34/55
Lowden (R) 45/26
Tarkanian (R) 48/31

1. Nevada is trending the right way.
The overall climate may be bad, but rest assured that Nevada is going to be a long-term Democratic state. The demography is in place and trending the right way. The old generation of right-wingers you still see in Winnummucca is disappearing.

2. everytime I get mad at Harry Reid's weakness in the future,
I'll think about how he could have been replaced by a Teabagger. I appreciate even the most corporate of Democrats, if the alternative is a Rand Paul-type, or James Inhofe-type.

3. Harry's not really a bad guy or even a bad senator, he just shouldn't be majority leader.

4. I'm no expert on NV politics. But from what I've read. Reid should have been more worried
about Tarkanian that Lady Cluck Cluck or that other teabagging twit. Let's hope this holds.

5. Nevada
In another thread on the senate outlook I mentioned Nevada I saw as tossup with Reid could very well win.Now it Is looking more
like a lean Democrat race here.

Reid's numbers have gone up slightly while all the Republicans' numbers have gone down. When voters say the Republicans they saw
Reid as better choice. The Republican governor Is so unpopular he will probally lose the primary. Not to mention the Ensign
scandal. And of course Republicans going out of their way to ailenate Hispanic Voters to get the racists out voting republican.
It was the democrats who put the first hispanic on the supreme court against most Republicans objections.

It Is looking more likely come january Reid will still be majority leader and Pelosi still Speaker.Granted both we have a bit smaller caucus but still bad for Republicans.

11. I've got a great fundraising idea for Harry Reid
If he promises to NOT run for Senate Majority Leader again, I'll bet his contributions would double.

14. She's not a female Rand Paul at all
She's much more neo-con, more pro-wars, more pro-Patriot Act. There's nothing libertarian about her.

16. Good that their #'s are down, but Reid's problem is he's stuck at a consistent number
Reid's problem isn't so much his opponents, it's his own support, he consistently polls within the low to mid 40's, if he can't break that barrier, then he's finished unless there's an unusually strong 3rd party candidate on the ballot who takes at least 10% of the vote. I mean remember New Jersey? Corzine was stuck with similar numbers of people saying they'd vote for him all year long, Christie almost blew it at the end, but Corzine just had a too limited poll of voters willing to go out and vote for him no matter how bad his opponents were.

17. IMO, voters are pissed at the Dems but they don't see Republicans as a viable alternative
