Was there this much controversy when Obama visited the Queen of England?
As far as I know, there is a LOT of decorum and ceremony involved in how you must behave in the Queen's presence. Even some that might seem, well, subservient. The Emperor of Japan is analogous in many ways to the monarchy in England. So why are people freaking out over a bow over a ceremonial figurehead? If it were the prime minister, then we'd have a debate here.

18. Our relationship with the countries is not analogous. It's that simple. I think he did the right
thing, by the way, and the criticism he's getting is stupid.

15. yeah we did
I mean, it wasn't that kind of defeat I guess, but we defeated them once and sort of took them to a draw a second time.

It doesn't matter. Rightwingers just hate Obama and they'll criticize him no matter what he does.

When Obama visited the Queen, there was a huge discussion about the First Lady touching her...

It's always the same bunch of morons here and elsewhere who jump on any perceived opening to express their bitterness and
hatred towards the Obamas.

Too bad for the naysayers that everybody in the global community agrees with those of us who admire the Presidential couple's
panache. ;)

16. The only thing wrong with republicans is
when they see Obama visit a head of state they are burning with envy that it is not a republican. They then start to nit pick to try to get people to complain about something.

Instead of posting articles about how child est republicans are acting, the press makes their rants look real.

21. A lot has happened in Asia to talk about
Of course, you wouldn't know it with our brilliant media. We should be talking about progress with Russia and nukes and Iran; Indonesia's praise of Obama's "fresh appraoch", Obama's talks with Myanmar (Burma), trade agreements, Hawaii hosting 2011 APEC, a bunch of stuff.

The fact that anybody in the media is talking about a bow is just an insult to every thinking person in the world really. It is stomach churning. And really, there isn't any political group that is immune to the hyteria of the day.

The President treats the brown arab and japanese with too much respect.

They're just a pack of racists that's all there is to it.

they went nuts because you-don't-touch-the-queen.

The right will get outraged about anything.

And honestly, from where I am, I'm not hearing anything about the bow. It's all on cable and the Internet tubes.

31. It's interesting how some things bring out Bushlike mentalities here, isn't it?
"Oh, fuck all the other countries! My way is the one true way!" gets really popular whenever the US has to do anything diplomatic with those evil despotisms known as constitutional monarchies.
