We are in a world of trouble, when you don't see the world coming to help us on this.

I didn't think I'd EVER post anything about this oil spill, having read all there is to date.

But where are our allies? Japan, the Dutch, the Australians, ANYONE OUT THERE know WTF to do?

Nobody knows, apparently. Which means Obama is not wrong in how he is handling this.

It appears that our dependence on oil is what is going to do us in, not terrorism, after all!

1. We should ask for world wide assistance to include those deep sea subs to come

in the area and help with sighting the problems.

We should open our arms to ALL who wish to help stop this devastating oil leak which will effect the WORLD'S Oceans.

2. You raise a good point. Has this ever happened before? Who
could help, what was done before? Obama is popular; you'd think if someone had a solution they'd share it.
These seem to be uncharted waters sadly.

13. Yep- this happened last August off the coast of North West Australia
Edited on Mon May-24-10 08:00 AM by depakid
took over two month to cap the Montara well- though it was only in 80 meters of water.

More on that here:

3. Well, Iran, at least, has offered to help
But apparently their offer is not being seriously considered.
The Dutch have sent some ships, which have apparently been turned away.
I don't think Japanese oil companies have too much expertise with this sort of thing. They're mainly involved in the purchasing and refining of crude oil and distribution of petroleum products.

7. Here's the link to the discussion about the Dutch ships

The title of the article says the ships were "on standby", but from the contents of the article, I interpreted that as meaning "turned away"

10. many in the world have offered, and been turned away. Unfortunately this reminds me of when
people offered to help in katrina and were turned away.
I don't understand the mindset of refusing help.

12. Russia has some experience with using nukes to stop a leak but
I think this is too deep down to do that. It does not seem that other countries won't help but that this leak may not be stopped by anything but the relief well, by August/September. If the kill down method does not work, look to the relief well.
As far as clean up, we should use anyone who will assist us.

Edited on Mon May-24-10 10:30 AM by kestrel91316
what to do for this mess if we didn't? The people of Somalia, perhaps? WHose responsibility is it other than those who DID the drilling and those who approved it??

When you play with fire, you better know how to put out a fire, or better yet, have a fire extinguisher at the ready.
