'GOP wins House seat in Obama's home district'
Edited on Sun May-23-10 08:49 AM by onehandle
It doesn't matter that it's not Chicago, and that the only reason they won is because we screwed up, and that the seat will very more than likely will be won back by the Dems in November.

It's this damaging AP headline that is everywhere this morning. And that is as good as gold for the GOP.

It's the spin.

HONOLULU – A Honolulu city councilman has defeated two Democrats to give Republicans a midterm election victory in the U.S. congressional district where President Barack Obama grew up.

Charles Djou's win Saturday is the latest triumph for the GOP as it looks to take back control of Congress. And it came as a blow to Democrats who could not rally around a candidate and find away to win a congressional race that should have been a cakewalk. The seat had been held by a Democrat for nearly 20 years and is located where Obama was born and spent most of his childhood.

"This is a momentous day. We have sent a message to the United States Congress. We have sent a message to the national Democrats. We have sent a message to the machine," Djou said. "The congressional seat is not owned by one political party. This congressional seat is owned by the people."

But Democrats believe the success in Hawaii will be short-lived. Djou will only serve through the remainder of 2010, and another election will be held in November for the next term.

3. The reason they won is because there was an extra
candidate who took the votes the democratic candidate should have gotten. She was asked to step down but being and ego triper she refused. She what happened, another Nader.

4. Republican votes = 67,610, Democratic votes = 52,802 + 47,391 = 100,193

7. It serves to correct other boards on the real facts here. Already did so today on one other site!

The wingnuts will of course make posts without story links and say that GOP won a house seat in Obama's own district. It would be good to check and "correct" the wingnut posts on this topic on other message boards today. These need to be refuted to note the actual breakdown of the vote and how it is likely only a temporary seat for them until November.

8. And yet the win in PA-12 was barely mentioned.I really don't care.
Worrying about the media is a way to give you a heart attack. They are always biased against Dems.
