McMahon wins U.S Senate nomination; Simmons to primary
HARTFORD — Former wrestling executive Linda McMahon won a first-ballot victory over Rob Simmons and Peter Schiff Friday night.

The final official totals were 737 for McMahon, 632 for Simmons, 44 for Schiff and 7 for Vincent Forras. McMahon, with 51.9 percent of the votes after numerous vote switches, won the party’s endorsement in the first round.

In accepting the nomination, McMahon, joined by husband Vince McMahon, her mother, pregnant daughter and son-in-law, thanked her family and staff as well as her opponents. “Rob Simmons is a decorated military man who has served us in our government as well as our country. We thank him for that service.” She said she would be asking Schiff for financial advice.

“I understand across town the Democrats by affirmation have nominated” Richard Blumenthal. “I venture to say we’re going to lay a smackdown on him come November.”

1. SHe Bought
She bought her nomination. Let's be clear. Simmons would have been far better of a candidate, despite his politics he seems like a somewhat Ok guy.I just hope Blumenthal uses the dirt that is apparently out there on Mcmahon.

4. I agree.
Simmons at least is a decent guy.

And I agree I do hope the Blumenthal campaign digs up a lot of dirt on her. There supposedly are some memos out there that she wrote to some doctors telling them to lie about the steroid use among wrestlers.

I have not seen one single campaign ad by him so far. While she already has several. I hope he doesn't think that people are going to vote for him just based on his record. They should, but you know, people can be stupid and easily swayed.

I just hope he's got something saved for later on.

7. VIDEO
I live in CT and I have talked to people who have seen video of her bumping and grinding, wiggling her tongue between her two fingers, using vulgar profanity and explicit sex talk. She has appeared with her husband in the ring and once even wore a bikini, not all that long ago, parading around with other wrestlers. Not sure if it is true but she also supposedly has a tattoo that I have heard is something any politician would love to get a picture of(guess there is some profanity written on her tattoo).Down side is, her and her husband owns copyright to most these videos. Not sure if it is true, but thought I had heard she was on Howard Stern's show once giving a very tough talking interview where drugs and sex were the main focus. They better start digging if any of these allegations are true.

17. There is only 2 hrs of television every Monday for 20 years, and a mountain of paperwork......

I'm pretty sure the DNC will be running a LOT of ads. You'll get your fill of Professional Wresting footage in the last 4 months of the campaign. With copies of those letters superimposed overtop. Keep in mind, at least a dozen of those wrestlers have died due to complications of steroid use, including the murder suicide of an entire family (Chris Benoit). Heck, one wrestler plunged 200 feet to his death (head first) when a safety line wasn't attached properly.

Linda McMahon is not an acceptable candidate for the Republican Party anywhere. Maybe for the House. But the Senate? It kind of shows how horribly disorganized they are in the NE.

2. That smackdown always comes to the ring as a "bought" deal but
the people have the say about this one. And Ms Dirty Trickster will find out they don't like it when someone tries to "buy" the win.

6. all candidates getting 15% of the convention votes
Edited on Sat May-22-10 08:07 AM by CTLawGuy
advance to the primary. Thus, if only one candidate gets more than 15%, as happened with the Dems (Blumenthal), there is no primary. Simmons got enough votes and will advance to the primary although McMahon is the "endorsed" candidate. The actual nominee will be decided on primary day.

5. McMahon can thanks the Times, for publishing her opposition research as fact and without checking
what they wrote.

It was her plan all along, level the plane field so that she did not have to fight in a primary while Blumenthal did not.

9. Simmons
Simmons and Blumenthal actually do like each other. Would be great if both of them teamed up to find dirt on her and bring her down.

11. Totally agree with you. Simmons is not my favorite politician around but he is not sleazy
like Linda McMahon is. She really disgusts me. You know, a few months ago I saw her at J. Timothy's in Plainville. I should have told her then how disgusted she makes me trying to throw all her money at the election but it was all just starting then, I had no idea how bad she would be! My husband kept looking at her going...Isn't that....I decided not to be rude and interrupt her dinner. I should have thrown my pot pie on her head. She would be used to it that kind of thing anyway.

12. I hope they can dig up some dirt on her.
She has so much money. Blumenthal cannot take anything for granted.

I would like to see Simmons dig up dirt and then her be the nominee. He had mentioned something a few months ago about the steriod issue but I have not seen any ads from his campaign. Only the stupid McMahon ads, which are shown over and over.

13. I'm
I'm not kidding. We counted 4 commercials one night in the course of a half an hour.Radio ads. TV ads. They run almost non stop. Not to mention the fliers we get. She had a small booklet made and sent out and we have received at least 3 of these and it's only May. These things must have cost a fortune. They are not fliers but almost like mini books. She is throiwng away money with out looking back. Anyone who has this kind of $$$ is way out of touch with reality. She is literally buying her way into office.

16. Correct and...
They nominated someone who is clearly for the reduction of taxes (for the rich), government regulation of business, etc. Because she's monetarily invested heavily in business.

But there is so much room to have some fun with this wackjob. Someone needs to put her head on a body with steroids and post the picture on here. I'll put it anywhere and everywhere I can.

21. In a normal world
I would laugh, as the MacMahons would highlight everything wrong with Republicans, and hold it to a light for all to see. However, this was before the USA became a joke. I fear this (expleteive deleted) may become president!
