Blumenthal wins DEM nomination for Senate seat
Edited on Fri May-21-10 09:25 PM by bigwillq

State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, under fire for misspeaking about his military record during Vietnam, easily won the endorsement Friday night of Connecticut Democrats to fill the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Chris Dodd.

"This week, as you all know, I had a little bit of a tough fight myself," Blumenthal said with a smile. "You all have been hearing what my wife, Cynthia, has been telling me for almost 30 years ... that I am not perfect. That I make mistakes. But you also know that I'm a fighter."

Despite the national attention that Blumenthal's misstatements have attracted, Democrats said they could not ignore his 26 years of political service — six years as a state lawmaker and 20 as Connecticut's omnipresent attorney general — to the state.

10. Yeah, they look a lot alike.
I am happy he got the nomination, I think he can get past this. He has always had a really good rep here in Connecticut, actually. I think he made two misstatements that were mistakes. It is just not in his public character anyway to constantly lie or spin. He actually has a rep as being very clean. He has done a lot for us in this state...I think there is a certain loyalty factor there. And Linda McMahon is spiteful and spoiled (ultra rich and thinks she can get away with anything). A lot of people here think she is trying to buy this race.

6. Not for the nomination, but
for winning the Senate election against whoever the Republicans put up against him. McMahon has NOT gotten the nomination yet.

13. Oh - I was wondering about that after I typed it. He seems to have a lot of
constituents who think very highly of him. I hope they GOTV.

16. McMahon won the nomination
I think Rob Simmons earned enough delegates to force a primary.

7. Fortunately he has 5 months to fix the damage
and if it becomes clear he can't, he's got plenty of time to 'Spend more time with the family.'

11. God help him...glad I'm not on his staff....
Honestly, I wish he would just go away. I understand that what he has done/said is insignificant and no big deal but it was very, very, VERY stupid. Viet Nam veterans take it really personally. We'll probably lose that senate seat because of his narcissistic arrogance.

17. Well,you haven't talked to the vets in CT who are well aware of what Dick B. has done
for them. He is a proven quantity. He has kept his promises to vets and their families. And it's the vets in CT, not wherever you are, that matter when it comes to getting the veterans' vote, isn't it?
