Mongiardo won't seek recanvass
Despite floating the idea earlier, Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo reversed course Wednesday afternoon and said he will not request a recanvassing of the state’s voting machines and absentee ballots after losing by one point to Attorney General Jack Conway in Tuesday’s Democratic Senate primary.

Mongiardo’s decision came after he said earlier Wednesday morning that he intended to request the recanvassing, issuing a statement saying that he “ow it to his supporters across the Commonwealth who gave so much of their time, energy and money to our cause, to make sure the results are accurate.”

But in his later statement, Mongiardo said that, “upon further reflection, I realize that despite there being less than a 1% difference in the vote, a re-canvass is extremely unlikely to change the outcome” and that the procedure “would only delay the healing process that needs to take place.”

Conway applauded Mongiardo’s decision, calling his campaign “worthy opponents,” but saying that now was the time to unite to defeat GOP nominee Rand Paul.
