McCain Adviser ridicules Palin's claims about 'poor' Katie Couric.
McCain Adviser Denies Palin’s Claim She Granted Couric Interview Because She Pitied Couric’s Low Self Esteem.

One of the whackiest claims Sarah Palin makes in her new book is that she agreed to her disastrous interview with Katie Couric — a central event during Campaign 2008 — because a top McCain aide told her Couric had low self esteem, leading Palin to take pity on the CBS anchor.

A McCain adviser I just spoke to adamantly denied the claim, and provided a counter story: Palin was repeatedly urged by McCain aides to prepare for the interview, but refused...

“It’s not true,” the McCain adviser I just reached said, laughing heartily at the claim. “It’s ridiculous.” ...

“She lacked the knowledge base to stand in front of the press corps that was traveling with her and answer questions,” the adviser said delicately. “Because of the success of the convention speech, the feeling was that she should be exposed to as many people as possible directly, not through a media filter. The way to do that was to do interviews with the anchors.”

“The truth is, she refused to prepare for the Katie Couric interview,” the adviser continued. “She refused to engage in any preparation. And it was a disaster.”http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/campaigns/mccain-adviser-denies-palins-claim-that-she-granted-couric-interview-because-she-felt-sorry-for-her/

They might pack some Depends as a precaution.

if something happened to him.

8. McCain wanted Lieberman. He let his advisors tell him who to pick, lol.
I bet he regrets THAT!

We were lucky because Sarah is the gift that keeps on giving. I hope she wins the nomination in 2012 (she's unelectable)!

it's his judgement that is called into question.

13. Oh I totally agree with you. His judgement sucks that he picked her.
The fact that he didn't listen to his instincts on such an important decision shows he wasn't right for the job (besides the fact that he's a Republican).

I'm still glad he picked Sarah.. she is the gift that keeps on giving. The only better choice would have been Orly Taitz.

14. Absolutely not
He sold out to the Repub machine and his handlers. Left to his own device he was set to pick Lieberman, and as unqualified as Palin is, and frankly annoying, I can't say I'm much fonder of good ol' Joe

20. The fundies chose her, not McCain
The McCain camp was told the fundamentalists would stay home in November if Palin wasn't on the ticket. Their intent was for her to be President because they knew McCain would never have survived four years of that job.

Now, this is the sick shit: A Romney-Palin or Huckabee-Palin ticket was electable. Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are strong enough to have survived their terms, meaning Palin would have taken the traditional VP's role as the least important person in Washington. But when you're running as the understudy to a man with a 20-pound medical record, you probably shouldn't be dumber than Dan Quayle if you want to move into the Naval Observatory.

(if it is him) comes as a surprise to 75% of America. Palin lies, you betcha!

18. I know
You'd think by now they would just go on the freaking record...maybe they think it would reflect poorly on them, since everyone knows Palin is nuts anyway. But I'm sick of the blind quotes and of Anna Marie Cox being their surrogate when they are afraid to go on the record.

10. Get your popcorn and watch the Repigs tear Palin apart nice and slow

Palin has made enemies with the GOP power players and they are not about to just sit back and watch her wink her way out of this. It's good to be funnier than the interview with Larry The Dinosaur and Carrie The Masturbating Non-Queen.

12. How was Palin "showing sympathy"?
She couldn't answer the damn questions! I don't get how being completely incomprehensible and making a total fool of yourself on national TV constitutes showing sympathy for someone you think has "low self-esteem"...

Palin's camp is clearly BSing here.

17. This woman refused to listen to McCain aides throughout the campaign. She wouldn't
study. She refused to practice. She just did not want to prepare for anything. So the RNC dressed her up in expensive clothing, perhaps rationalizing that Americans would care more about her looks than her substance. They disgust me, and so does Failin' Palin. :puke:

19. Really, Palin's claims about Katie Couric are just absurd.
We all saw what an epic disaster that interview was. Couric did her job - she asked approprate questions and followed up on the answers given. Palin has no one to blame but herself for her miserable performance.

21. Couric threw softballs
Seriously, that interview consisted of almost nothing but softballs.

"What magazines and newspapers do you read?"

She fucked up a seriously softball question like that? WTF???

Palin was incapable of dealing with softball questions during her first interview.

Even Charlie Gibson toned it down and threw softball questions in his interview with her.

She's incapable of dealing with a softball interview, let alone a tough interview. She would fold up like a cheap tent in a national crisis.

22. The "what magazines and newspapers do you read?" is SUCH a softball question
everyone in my family from my senile grandma to my decidedly non-intellectual young cousin in the coast guard could answer that.

And hell, even if you don't actually read the paper, MAKE SHIT UP!

"Duh, I usually start my day by leafing through the Juneau paper and the Anchorage paper and the Fairbanks paper just to see what people are talking about around the state, and then I go look at the Fox news website to see what's happening in the nation. I'm a busy person, so I usually have a staffer look through the websites of the major national papers and a few Canadian papers and print out interesting articles that I can read while flying or if I have a few spare minutes."

Not the most intellectual answer, but certainly passable.

29. Her actual answer was astonishing:
Katie Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?

Sarah Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.

KC: But, like, what ones specifically? I'm curious.

SP: All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years.

KC: Can you name a few?

SP: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

Has she slammed Gibson as hard as she's attempted to slam Couric (even though he's since retired)?

No matter: She looked like an idiot, no matter who was doing the interviewing.

28. Notice how Palin had to make herself superior to Couric
by saying Couric had low self esteem? We all have heard about Palin's extreme confidence in herself. I think we now see how she makes herself feel that confident - by looking at other successful women as somehow below her. Couric is an attractive, photogenic woman so Palin could not feel superior to Couric in physical appearance (as I'm sure she does with other women). And of course she couldn't feel superior in intellect. So to make herself feel superior, Palin had to think that Couric has low self esteem.

Because Sarah must believe that she is better than other women.
