McCain Adviser Denies Palin’s Claim She Granted Couric Interview Because She Pitied Couric’s Low Self Esteem.

One of the whackiest claims Sarah Palin makes in her new book is that she agreed to her disastrous interview with Katie Couric — a central event during Campaign 2008 — because a top McCain aide told her Couric had low self esteem, leading Palin to take pity on the CBS anchor.

A McCain adviser I just spoke to adamantly denied the claim, and provided a counter story: Palin was repeatedly urged by McCain aides to prepare for the interview, but refused...

“It’s not true,” the McCain adviser I just reached said, laughing heartily at the claim. “It’s ridiculous.” ...

“She lacked the knowledge base to stand in front of the press corps that was traveling with her and answer questions,” the adviser said delicately. “Because of the success of the convention speech, the feeling was that she should be exposed to as many people as possible directly, not through a media filter. The way to do that was to do interviews with the anchors.”

“The truth is, she refused to prepare for the Katie Couric interview,” the adviser continued. “She refused to engage in any preparation. The McCain camp was told the fundamentalists would stay home in November if Palin wasn't on the ticket. Their intent was for her to be President because they knew McCain would never have survived four years of that job.

Now, this is the sick shit: A Romney-Palin or Huckabee-Palin ticket was electable. Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are strong enough to have survived their terms, meaning Palin would have taken the traditional VP's role as the least important person in Washington. But when you're running as the understudy to a man with a 20-pound medical record, you probably shouldn't be dumber than Dan Quayle if you want to move into the Naval Observatory.

We all saw what an epic disaster that interview was. Couric did her job - she asked approprate questions and followed up on the answers given. Palin has no one to blame but herself for her miserable performance.

by saying Couric had low self esteem? We all have heard about Palin's extreme confidence in herself. I think we now see how she makes herself feel that confident - by looking at other successful women as somehow below her. Couric is an attractive, photogenic woman so Palin could not feel superior to Couric in physical appearance (as I'm sure she does with other women). And of course she couldn't feel superior in intellect. So to make herself feel superior, Palin had to think that Couric has low self esteem.

Because Sarah must believe that she is better than other women.
