President Barack Obama heads to the Far East and the tall, dignified American President has the humility, dignity and personal honor to bow to his Japanese hosts in their traditional manner. Instead of the ham-fisted 'Merkin Way, we saw the dignified strong American way.
And the anti-civilized Afrikaner Conservatives blast him for it.
I've never understood the concept that the United States of America must conduct itself with the arrogance of a Praetorian Guard. We fought a revolution against similar arrogance.
But the uncouth and uncivilized feel that we giving away the store, by actually saying by word and deed that the United States of America seeks leadership in concert with the larger world. Respect, Diplomacy, Learned Response. I can hear the Afrikaner Republicans now.. "That's gonna weaken 'Murka"
What is it about civilized behavior that threatens them so?
Can somebody tell me what kind of a country we have when someone who opens their mouth and proves beyond all doubt they are a fool is seen as somebody who could credibly be someone who may sit at the seat of power. A person who may be called on to lead in peace or conflict? Don't sleep, Sarah Palin could be that person.
Having seen her performance in last year's campaign, I wouldn't vote for her. After reading her book, I'd be ashamed to vote for her. I would honestly be embarrassed to travel abroad and say the words "President Palin". Saying the words would be drinking castor oil. Yet the real sad thing is, we have a nation that is broke enough, desperate enough and feels embittered enough to have enough TeaBag Votes to make her run serious. Part of the reason these tea bag folks are getting the notice they are getting is we on the left-progressive-Democratic-whatever you want to call our opposition to their un civilization, just don't get out there and push for what we want. We know the current health care reform package doesn't go far enough. We largely disagree with President Obama's plan to Cambodianize the War in Afghanistan, but how many of us are willing to really hit the streets to voice that displeasure? If you want a singer payer system? We have to Montgomery-to-Selma this thing. All God's Chillun's got feet and them feet need to marching. Lets "teabag" the insurance companies, and teabag the banks. There are more of us than them teabag idiots and we actually have a product to sell that is worth buying. We have an America that wants to build for our future in a new more people-centered direction.
What are we willing to do to protect civilization?
And one of best ways we protect civilization is the rule of law. After a long time coming, the rule of law may yet prevail in the case of 9/11. Theoretically, Shiekh Mohammad has a hell of a case against the United States Government. When we nabbed this guy, did we read him his rights? Did he get the right to a speedy trial. Did we detain him without official charges pressed. The number of technicalities you could pick out is potentially explosive.
As opposed to the enemy combatant thing the Bush Administration pushed, the Obama Administration seeks to put them in a civilian criminal court, which is where criminals get sent. They also want the venue to be New York. Makes sense, the crime happened primary in New York, why not NYC?
What the Obama administration is telling us loud and clear is that both in substance and reality, the War on Terror from their point of view is over," Giuliani said. "(Mohammad) should be tried in a military tribunal. He is a war criminal. This is an act of war."
Giuliani said the biggest problem is that the United States is treating terrorists as it did after the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which was followed by a string of other terrorist attacks on Americans overseas and finally by the Sept. 11 massacre.
And he suggested that such a high-profile trial in New York City would burden New York City both with the added risk of an attack and the added cost of security expenses.
"Of course it's going to create more security concerns. Just wait and see how much New York City spends on this in order to protect him," Giuliani said. "This gives all the benefits to the terrorists and much less benefits to the public." -- Rudy Giuliani at foxnews.com November 15, 2009
Now I figured Rudy G would stand tall to have the mastermind of this attacks have to stand trial in New York City, but you see Rudy G, like most Republicans when it comes to real American values tends to forgot about those values. Values that show the strength of our system.
By giving Shiekh Mohammad due process, we give the ultimate thumb-to-the-nose treatment to Al Queda. We lived up to our highest ideals at the worst of times. We will not retreat behind our castle walls and cower to repression. Our civilization is strong enough to stand up for our ideas, now compare that to a belief that we can bring wanton violence to someone's door and get a positive result.
But the right wing don't want that, because deep down they need that fear. They need that fortress because it solidifies their power to retreat behind that war. The Afrikaner Republican must keep America in a bantustan of abject fear to the "other" If we keep giving them their way that is what will happen.
Who will stand up for civilization. I will. Will you?
