Notice these red states now all want the FEDS to help them.
The right wing gulf coast states who have droves of folks who don't want "the damn federal government" in their lives, are now screaming, "Obama help us," the oil is coming."

Tennessee, who rejected Al Gore in 2000, are now begging for federal help.

I am all for these states being helped, but the hypocrisy is mind blowing. Bobby Jindal, Hayley Barbour, and the rest all want the help of "Big government."

How many times do you think Hayley Barbour has had nasty things to say about enviormentalists?

1. When it effects industries that make their living on the Gulf Coast, then they care.
It could destroy shrimping, fishing and tourism for a long time.

3. Nothing new. Red states take in way more in federal dollars than they put in.*

12. A whole host of them whined and complained about recovery funds just last year
Edited on Thu May-06-10 11:12 AM by depakid
and they're constantly complaining about the federal government interfering with their "states rights."

And yet who do they cry to when the have some serious problem?

Just like with New Orleans, where Republicans turned down appropriations for years to upgrade the levies- and then lo and behold, what happened?

This is what the OP's talking about- and quite frankly, I understand the sentiment- if they want to be rugged individualists- well then, so be it. Otherwise, they need to shut their traps.

13. Which of that whole host is against federal disaster relief?
Certainly, there are the idiots who short-sightedly voted against proper disaster preparedness with regards to NOLA, but that's not what I was talking about.

"I understand the sentiment- if they want to be rugged individualists- well then, so be it. Otherwise, they need to shut their traps."

So punish the uninformed or innocent citizens for what their asshole politicians do/say? See, I don't understand that sentiment. Not at all.

19. You make a distinction between natural and economic disasters
that I'm not prepared to make.

People suffer in both situations- and they both affect the nation at large.

15. Actually, after Katrina, Republicans were saying that states should look out for themselves.
Really. They said that.

9. Only send money to "blue areas" in case of disaster?
Surely that's not what you're saying.

16. Red States Love Government
The Red States only want the government to help THEM, just not anyone else.

As long as White people benefit, then there won't be an issue.

20. And I'd hope that we would help regardless.
There are a lot of good people living in those states that need help, and just because their leaders are amoral opportunistic scumpiles is no reason to ignore them.
