What is President Obama going to have left to do in his second term?
President Obama has tackled quite a bit so far:
Bringing the troops from Iraq Home, Stem Cells, Equal Pay for Women, The Economy/Jobs, Health Care Reform, etc. http://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/signed-legislation

and

currently & upcoming: Financial Reform, Cap & Trade/Energy-Environment, Immigration Reform to start this year, DADT (Congress this year), Education Reform, Fannie&Freddie/Housing Reform at the beginning of next year, etc.

If he keeps it up at this rate there isn't going to be much for him to do during the years of 2013-2017 ;)

1. Tell me you're kidding!
I'm sure, more than sure, that there will be plenty of things for him to do!

Just because I can't think of any reflects more on me than on reality...

2. No I am not kidding.
The majority of his BIG reforms look like they will be done by the end of his first four years.

4. Time will tell.
And you know that things do have a way of cropping up...

Of course, those won't be reforms, in and of themselves.

11. Campaign promises
Edited on Wed May-05-10 09:17 PM by Tx4obama
Of the 500+ campaign promises so far Obama has kept 110, part of 34, and 256 are 'in the works
Obameter right side of the page ----> http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/

Actually he's gotten more than 110 done, Politifact hasn't finished updating all of the ones affected by HCR yet.

Edited to add: Here's better link directly to the Obameter page: http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/

10. How about making American government the global model for efficiency?
I see no reason why we can't. We certainly haven't tried. Also, the healthcare reform which was passed must be redone.

He's not going to get to everything in a first term, anyway.

Edited on Wed May-05-10 08:59 PM by FrenchieCat
so that folks can remember sooner than later what hell was really like,
cause it is obvious that too many have forgotten.

Then they can complaint and make snide comments day in, day out,
and no one within an earshot of being able to do anything about it will give a fuck.
In fact, they'll be dealing with so many policies going ass backward,
they'll even forget what was on their Wish list that they demanded to happen like
right away.

25. "Don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"
For those who think he hasn't done shit, how quickly they forgot what that was like when it was REALLY true. It'd be great to give them a reminder if only it wouldn't be so damaging to the rest of us.

But that will come soon enough when the next Republican eventually ascends.

35. "However, staying off of DU more has made me realize most Dems think he's doing a great job."
Exactly. And not just Dems, people in general. I've noticed the exact same thing.

I was just reading a thread where everyone was dissing Elena Kagan for the next Supreme Court slot. It was all I could do to keep from typing, "shit, if the people on this site think she's crap, she must be one HELL of a great pick!" It's almost funny the amount of cynicism and contrary-ness the non-stop fuckwittery exhibited on this site is bringing out of me. :)

From Politico:

In a high-stakes move, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) are planning to forge ahead with or without Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and introduce an energy bill next week, according to sources familiar with the planning.

26. There is always more to do.

He inherited quite a mess to deal with from the previous president. I think he is doing a good job with what he has got. He does have a lot left to do. He has made some mistakes but he is a good, honest, intelligent man who works hard. I have confidence in him.

He already did a lot with the stimulus bill but he needs to get it done.

Next term... improve health care reform, make organizing an union easier if it doesn't get done sooner, and paying off the debt.

42. I'm sure there will be plenty to do
But in times of peace and prosperity, there may not be so much to do.

There are always the ceremonial aspects.

But if he gets more liberals in Congress, he may be able to do more liberal things. Though if that happened, I predict the same DUers would still be calling him a corporate sellout or whatever.
