GOP Political Consultant Planning Run Against Schumer

Jay Townsend, a Republican political consultant from Orange County, plans to announce his candidacy Saturday to run against Sen. Charles Schumer, his campaign said this morning.

Townsend has been mulling a candidacy for some time, but now is making it official in his hometown of Cornwall-on-Hudson on Saturday. He’s the first Republican to jump into the race against the state’s senior senator.
