Kenya Throws Down On Tea Partiers: We Got Your 'Real Tea Party' Right Here!
Eric Kleefeld | April 20, 2010, 4:35PM

It's an invitation that would make a Tea Partier's head explode -- and confirm all the worst fears of the Birthers.

The Kenyan government is taking on the Tea Partiers head on -- hosting a "Real Tea Party" in the Capitol next Tuesday to promote the country's status as the world's number one exporter of tea. And they are explicitly contrasting it with the other tea parties that have been held of late on the Hill.

"The Government of Kenya, the world's #1 tea exporter, cordially invites you to a proper Kenyan Tea Party on Capitol Hill (one without a political agenda)," the invitation boasts.
(Click link to see the invitation.) "Please join Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister, the Honorable Uhuru Kenyatta, at Kenya's tea tasting event, complete with food pairings and tea leaf readings."

TPM confirmed the event with the Kenyan Embassy.

Of course, according to some other "Tea Party" types out there, it is often said that Kenya's major export is none other than President Barack Obama, who was supposedly born in Kenya, then covertly smuggled into the United States so that a biracial child named Barack Hussein Obama would one day grow up and run for president as part of a grand Marxist conspiracy.

But so far, it just looks like the Kenyans are bringing in some of their fine tea for this Capitol Hill event.

2. Kenya, as it really is
Kenya criminalizes human beings, their laws call for the imprisonment of GLBT people, 5-14 years. The police and other government thugs constantly harass and intimidate and extort those the law gives them power over. 96% of Kenyans say they are bigoted against gay people.
So. That is what it is.

3. There are Kenyans working to change that

No way would I believe that 96% figure.

Kenya is, right now, in the process of drafting a new constitution, and based on the columns in the Nairobi papers and discussions in coffee houses, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that 96% number.

"Sections 162 to 165 of the Kenyan Penal Code criminalize homosexual behaviour and attempted homosexual behaviour between men, which is referred to as "carnal knowledge against the order of nature". The penalty is 5 to 14 years' imprisonment. The age of consent is 16. Lesbian relations are not prohibited in the law.

Homosexuality remains criminalized in Kenya, and even though there are few prosecutions in the country on the sections of the penal code, that criminalize it; LGBTI people are routinely harassed by the police, held in remand houses for long without charges being preferred against them, and presented in court, on trumped-up charges. Closely related to this, is a cartel of corrupt police officials who routinely extort and blackmail LGBTI people with the threat of arrest and imprisonment if they do not give them bribes.

According to the 2007 Pew Global Attitudes Project, a strong 96% of Kenya residents said that homosexuality should be rejected by society, making it one of the highest rejection of homosexuality in the 44 countries surveyed."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Kenya

Religion is the number one reason why there are many anti-gay views in Africa.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8528409.stm
