Crist Advisers See Path to Senate Outside GOP
Hounded by conservative activists as too liberal, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is being advised by some close supporters to abandon his lagging Republican primary bid for a U.S. Senate seat and run instead as an independent.

Mr. Crist's campaign issued a statement last week saying the governor would run in the Republican primary and describing the talk of an independent bid as "baseless rumors.''

Still, some advisers see room for him to take another course. Mr. Crist is trailing badly in public-opinion surveys against state House Speaker Marco Rubio, who has become a darling of conservative activists nationally.

1. I see a path for "our" Lieberman.
Crist would probably be a welcome addition.

2. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
I was hoping this would come up. If he does run as an Indie, say hello to Senator Kendrick Meek.

3. I would love this
It certainly would doom Rubio, the swing voters would break for Crist. Crist could win like this or if the vote is lopsided enough, Kendrick Meek could pull off a miracle and that would be the best scenario.

4. I don't see how Crist running as an independent will help us, unless Meek drops out
Months ago I would have said this is good news Crist should have done/thought of seriously a while ago, but now with Meek starting to look competitive in general election matchups without Crist, I think Crist would probably hurt us more then help us running as an independent.

Still, I'd take a Crist win over a Rubio win in the general election by far.
