he obviously knows they will be watching for him to bow so they can freak out again. If he had gone out of his way not to do anything that would remotely be considered a bow, like struggling to hold himself perfectly perpendicular to the floor, he would be kowtowing to Rush, etc. so I'm glad he chose to go ahead and do a big one.

17. a bow and "bowing-down" are not equal

In some cultures, bowing is just a cultural gesture, as handshaking & waves are to us.

A salute to a foreign flag is a different thing, but a bow in a culture that has been courteous to our leaders (when in our country), by shaking hands is just a reciprocal gesture.
