Goodness, Repubs want employers to screen for undocumented aliens to make sure
none receive employer provided health insurance.

Wow is that evil or what?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/nov/30/health-bills-fail-to-block-illegals-from-coverage/

Health bills fail to block illegals from coverage

Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants could receive health care coverage from their employers under the bills winding their way through Congress, despite President Obama's explicit pledge that illegal immigrants would not benefit.

The House bill mandates, and the Senate bill strongly encourages, businesses to extend health care coverage to all employees. But the bills do not have exemptions to screen out illegal immigrants, who usually obtain jobs by using false identities and are indistinguishable from legal workers.

A rough estimate by the Center for Immigration Studies suggests that the practical effect of the mandates would be that about 1 million illegal immigrants could obtain health insurance coverage through their employers.

=---

Republicans are trying to use health insurance to get all their pet projects legislated. Abortion, now immigration. Damn. We have to make sure they don't USE us to get what they want. Obama needs to tell them screw you, we are in charge now.

2. They are supposed to
I remember the day my former employer asked everyone to bring in their Social Security Card or some other proof of citizenship becuase the law required it.

5. They checked everyone's spouse too?
That is what health care can do.

3. Yeah sure they do.
What offends me though is using the Dems desire for healthcare to check everyone out. Its so gestapo like.

In Hawaii, they are requiring all state workers to document the eligibility of all dependants currently claimed for health insurance purposes. I'm sure they are trying to root out spouses who may not have all their legal papers in order.

I just hate these oblique ways of catching people, especially health care of all things. We require them to risk their lives to stay here. That doesn't sound right if they can pay for the services they receive.

7. Not to block health insurance
Are employers who do not offer insurance exempt from a new law? No answer please.

4. How difficult can it be to determine if a possible employee may be illegal?
More likely that the employer wants to hire illegals so they can pay less.

12. The employee's record should still be easy to maintain.
Just flag the record of any that are working with a visa. 30 or 60 days before expiration or whenever appropriate notify the employee that they must provide documentation that it has been extended or their employment is terminated.

8. Yes, it's evil. And here's why. Infectious diseases don't care
about a person's immigration status. Isn't it in the public interest to make sure everyone has access to treatment? And by treatment I don't mean emergency room visits or standing for hours in line at an occasional free clinic. I would rather provide the means to have everyone seen by a doctor rather than risk having someone with no insurance and no way to obtain it infect me or you with tuberculosis or who knows what else. It's extremely short-sighted to deny care to anyone, and it amazes me that politicians aren't smart enough to realize this and at least make it part of the debate.

And, note, I am not advocating in favor of anyone not following proper immigration guidelines. I am just trying to be realistic.
