Dumb it down!!
Anyone else wish that the President would hire some marketing group, or at least a web developer, to create a web site that explains the new laws that are being created by the Democrats.

Most Americans are either stupid, ignorant, or lazy. They need to be fed information in sound bites, images, or charts. Let's dumb it down.

Explaining the good of this bill in a speech won't do shit. Americans, for whatever reason, don't read their news. They get it from talk radio, their television, or from the internet.

Please, Mr. President, hire someone to dumb it down. We are losing the war of information, and something needs to change.

2. You'd still get, "Keep your government hands off of my Medicare!"
What are you going to do? Pass the thing and make it work so well they can't live without it.

13. No. You would still get "keep your government.. off my Medicare" from the right.
But not from the rest of Americans. I'm sure there are many Democratic Obama voters that have been convinced that this is a terribly bad bill. We could easily convince them if they had a place to go.

4. I like the idea but would probably use the term "simplified" instead of dumbing down. n.t

6. The simplified points have been posted in here so many times I am almost blind

I have just come to the conclusion, people just are not interested in looking at the bill.

Good gravy Boehner whines about the bill being too large, and yet he has had the thing since Nov of last year.. if he sat down and read 25 pages a day, he would have gone through it.

9. Really. Show me where I can see this ENTIRE bill explained in a simple to read web site.
...with pictures and simple talking points.

Various posts on a progressive web site don't count.

12. Whoa sunny jim.. off the high horse.. I was not attacking you
Just a simple statement, that the ability to find the highlighted points of the bill are out there.. Most people just do not care..

I was actually agreeing with you

7. Yes, and I believe they are trying to do just that.. You saw some of it last night in the speeches..
by Obama and Pelosi. They had 3 or 4 bullets they kept repeating. But clearly they need to do more to "dumb it down" as you say.

10. Speeches don't count. Pretty graphs and simple talking points are the only thing that will work.
Liberal blogs and long articles are worthless when it comes to the large majority of ignorant Americans.

Sending them a link to a speech or a long wonky article will do nothing.

17. Yeah, but I think that is about to change....
... part of the problem before is that he couldn't entirely control what was in the bill, so it was hard to say "this is what's in the bill" when you cant guarantee it.

Not anymore....

18. I agree.
I wonder if they decided to wait until it passed to give the dumbed down version. Had they done it earlier, maybe they thought that it would just give Republican leaders more targets to shoot at and take down. Or that they would just up the ante in confusing the issues for their dumb voters over it.

As it is, the republicans have walked out on the plank, by saying health care WILL do this or that, and totally scaring folks over with utter lies. And now the plank gets sawed in half by the democrats listing in plain language all the real changes, & showing that the repub leaders were deliberately lying to their republican voters all this time.

I am not convinced yet that anyone was really smart enough to strategize like this, but it is one possibility. It would take the wind out of the average tea party freak to know that they were riled up about absolutely nothing, ie that all that time spent repeating their master's talking points did nothing but make them look stupid because they were repeating falsehoods and made up crap about the HCR bill. And that they were used as pawns and lied to deliberately. I'd like to see them thrown off balance like this.

19. We just need one good 'bumper sticker slogan'.
And use it often. I'm sure someone in the administration could come up with one.

Gruber was brilliant on C-Span and he's the one who wrote the bill.

23. They care not for information.
It needs to be the politics of the bill. It's the emotion (relief from worry/bankruptcy) that is remembered not the facts.

How did you come to that conclusion?

Do you personally know the majority of Americans?
