What's a PVI?

Cook Partisan Voting Index
Refers to the Partisan Voting Index (PVI) as used by Charlie Cook, Washington's foremost political handicapper. The PVI is designed to provide a quick overall assessment of generic partisan strength. For this volume, the PVI includes an average of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections in the district as the partisan indicator. The PVI value is calculated by a comparison of the district average for the party nominee, compared to the 2004 national value for the party nominee.

3. Steven Lynch has no friggin' excuse
He was on local NPR today making pretty lame excuses for his vote. Fuck him - no support from me, that's for sure.

4. What about Chet Edwards of Texas?
I sincerely doubt Chet's going to keep his seat -- he had four GOP challengers anxious to take his seat in the primary -- now it's down to two in a run-off. He could have done the right thing and voted for health care but he wants to be able to stand up before all the rightwingers in Waco and say he didnt' vote for health care.

Personally, I don't care if one of this challengers takes his seat. At least you know who you're dealing with.

5. I'd add Dennis Kucinich and (gasp!) Bart Stupak
Through their leadership and swallowing pride, they brought along people from the left and the right to get this done.

I was a little dumbfounded last night when it was Stupak who stood up and, fairly eloquently, shot down the heinous Republican "motion to recommit" based on the faux abortion meme. It was important that Stupak had made himself the world's most pro-life Democrat, because when he spoke about how this bill was for life because of the previously uninsurable children it would give help to and the lives, from cradle to grave, it would save ... well, it meant something.

I'm willing to give kudos to both of these men for knowing, in the end, what was possible and what was right.

8. I wouldn't consider Ellsworth and Baron Hill to be courageous.
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 09:31 AM by LiberalFighter
Ellsworth plans to run for US Senator this year. Baron Hill is considering running for Governor in 2012. Both will need run state wide elections and that changes the demographics of their election.

10. Disappointed in John Adler
He used to be my state senator, and I have met him a few times and always liked him. But he has been a real disappointment since getting elected to Congress.

11. The guy from MD Kratvill or however you spell his name
is from a very very conservative district. They hardly ever vote Democrat.
The Maryland panhandle...Frederick, Allegany and Washington Counties. They really suck. The take all the benefits a Democratic governor sets up for the social services but scream and holler about it. THEY DIDN'T GET A DAMN THINK UNDER EHRLICH BUT DEBT. And they loved him only because he was a republican and the biggest crook to come along in 100 years.
