HCR: Obama Approval Dropping, At Lowest Point Yet
Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 10:00 PM by MannyGoldstein
Roughly two-thirds of Americans want the public option that Candidate Obama pledged would be in the bill he signs. Roughly the same percentage don't want mandates with no public option, which is the crux of the current bill.

So, it comes as no surprise that Obama's job approval has moved to http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/gallup-daily-obama-job-approval.aspx">an all-time low of 46%, with a disapproval of 48%.

On the bright side, things are looking up for some: health insurer stocks are doing quite well indeed.

and that this bill actually isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be and actually addresses many of the problems of our health care system.

23. You would have hated FDR's Social Security and LBJ's Medicare.
They didn't cover everyone either, and had all sorts of carved-out exceptions to get enough support to pass.

Only because he may be using past indicators. Most of this is unprecedented including the Prez himself.

I would just give that timeframe some wiggle room.

9. This bill is not perfect but will help.....
It does not appear to me that he cares about his own numbers if he did he would not have taken this on. I'm still with this President. I would hold him more accountable for the bill if he did not have to go through congress to get his agenda passed.

13. I honestly don't care. This bill may not have overwhelming support but it is damn
important and more important to me then a politician's approval rating. The public once approved of Bush and the Iraq war with incredibly high numbers. Didn't make it right all these years later. Poll numbers for Presidents have meaning but a few times...in their reelection efforts and during the midterms.

Sometimes the majority of Americans don't have all the facts and base their decisions on MSM spin.

Leaders should have better sense than to govern by polls.

30. Those numbers are more a reflection of failure and not getting anything done on HCR.
Once this thing is passed on Sunday and the media hails it as a bold, brave, hard fought win for the Democrats, Obama and America, those numbers will look alot better.

41. His approval rating went back up today. It is 47/47. Daily poll watching could drive a person mad.
Maybe that is why Gallup and Rasmussen decided to have daily tracking polls for the first time ever for a President.

The jobs situation will be greatly improved and that "big bad" health bill that some people are afraid of won't seem as scary and they'll actually like it.

51. I think BOTH people cheering low numbers and people cheering high numbers are really sad.
This isn't a fucking game. It's not a fucking sport. This isn't about your pro-Obama team winning or your anti-Obama team winning.

This is about real people's lives.

It's about poor and working american families and whether or not ordinary Americans feel represented by their government or whether they - as usual - feel left out in the cold.

If the numbers are low but you believe the people are "wrong" - then maybe instead of playing games you could try to seriously look at what their concerns are, and where the disconnect is? If the numbers are low and you believe the people are "right" maybe you can focus on how to deliver that message effectively to our political leaders, and stop treating politics like a fucking high school popularity contest.
