3. Drier, Rules Committee ranking member, says Dems can pair reconciliation fix with Senate bill vote
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 02:42 PM by flpoljunkie
Yes, they can--Rep. Ryan!

From Ezra Klein...

Here's how that will work: Rather than passing the Senate bill and then passing the fixes, the House will pass the fixes under a rule that says the House "deems" the Senate bill passed after the House passes the fixes.

The virtue of this, for Pelosi's members, is that they don't actually vote on the Senate bill. They only vote on the reconciliation package. But their vote on the reconciliation package functions as a vote on the Senate bill. The difference is semantic, but the bottom line is this: When the House votes on the reconciliation fixes, the Senate bill is passed, even if the Senate hasn't voted on the reconciliation fixes, and even though the House never specifically voted on the Senate bill.

9. They have the most ignorant of arguments against HCR.
I guess Washington bureaucrats are to be feared more than an insurance company dictating whats covered and dropping you. :eyes:

14. I hate the Bill BUT seeing as how Repubs hate it too - I am EAGER to pass it.
Watching this thing i hear Repubs and they sound desparate to kill it. The bill isnt good but with their adamant resentment of it clearly says there is something in there that scares them....that is enough to get my reluctant vote. Pass the damn thing and be done with it...

17. Had to quit watching just now.
It's been reduced to snotty petulance and whiney lies, blaming "the American people" for stopping every effort to get a bill passed in a timely manner. I can't afford to replace my television, so rather than throwing a brick at the fuckwads I just turned it off.

But I tried, I really did try.

18. Ryan won't tell you his plan to solve our budget woes continues Bush's tax cuts for the rich.
The man has zero credibility--altho he is quite the deficit zealot.

20. He was trying though. I wish they wouldn't dispense with
reading the bills they plan to 'debate' and vote upon. It took awhile for me to figure out what Ryan was really getting at because he never really said it outright.

Had a big chuckle out of the guy talking about St. Patrick's week, and all the leprechauns running around.

21. The $467B saved in Medicare is in cuts from Medicare Advantage-a giveaway to insurance companies.
Ryan's idea of how to 'save' Medicare would take $638 billion out of Medicare and provide those age 55 and under with a voucher with which to buy private insurance. It is another giveaway to insurance companies.

Good luck with that, Rep. Ryan. His party is pretty much backing away from his plan--which is essentially what George W. Bush was proposing in 2005. Remember how well that fared!
