Is Anybody Else Listening To The President Talk About Health Care Right Now?.....
He has explained it better this time than I've ever heard him explain it. He is kicking insurance companies ass right now - as well as his critics. Go Obama!!!!!

16. Excuse me if I'm not reassured.
All of the wuuunderful regulation of corporate America in the last 3 or 4 decades has left me a little underwhelmed and unimpressed.

18. Obama wasn't the President for the last 3 or 4 decades.
It's absolutely amazing to me that I have to tell you that.

24. No shit?
It's also absolutely amazing that you would think that is a valid counter argument.

Tell us, if this wonderful bill should happen to pass, what happens in 2, 4, 6 years from now as hundreds of millions of lobbyists' dollars pour into DC (the health industry is the largest lobbing group in DC you know). Do you think politicians are going to take a stand against them in favor of us peons on the bottom? Recent history tells us that Big Business is going to get their way and we are going to get screwed.

Even if Democrats miraculously maintain a majority, deregulation didn't happen with by the hands of Republicans alone. Clearly our party isn't opposed to screwing us in favor of those with the power and money. Holes will immediately be punched in this bill.

Regardless of the regulation aspect of this issue, the more important concern is that for profit health care is the problem, not the solution. Giving them more power and influence will only make this worse.

30. the "but it's REGULATED" argument just makes me laugh
like that's going to stand in the way.
What we're doing with this is ENSURING that for-profit insurance companies remain the gatekeepers to healthcare.
Regulations can be tinkered with and changed...we've seen the results of that recently haven't we?

4. Correction, he's TALKING about kicking ass, he hasn't kicked ass, nor
has he given any indication that he is going to actually DO anything about it except guarantee them more customers, without guaranteeing customers any fair choices.

Rah, rah, my ass.

10. Well enjoy your naivete. He has proven to be a good speaker, and to
date a less than stellar President. Lots of talk, then lots of folding to Repubs, Bankers, Pharma, Health Insurers, and Wars!

The only reason I can see anyone being impressed about his speechifying again, is if you've had your head in the sand for the past year, where he has sold out the middle and lower classes, and totally bailed out the rich, white bastards who put us in this mess.

13. I'm not naive, I live in the real world..
Bush bailed out the banks and started the two wars that Obama is ending.

Obama is implementing REGULATIONS on major corporations for the first time in history, and you hate it. That makes sense. :eyes:

25. Um, what?
"Bush bailed out the banks"

I know it's fun to pin this on Bush but the bailout would not have passed without the help of over 200 Democrats in Congress (including Obama and Biden). The real world you live in should include those little facts as well.

27. If he caved he would just switch to the next debate. He would
switch to focusing the debate on finance reform, jobs or maybe even the next war they want to start.

I agree he could get the Senate in line if he really fought them, which he should.

14. If I read one more post about Obama talking tough, or crowing with glee because he
got in a zinger at a press conference, I'm going to fucking scream until they hear it all the way down in Battery Park. God fucking dammit, people, why are you so satisfied with nothing but talk? I don't care what he SAYS, his plan is a piece of shit that will help VERY few people and entrench the health insurance cartels even further.

He's "kicking ass"? Gimme a fucking break.

23. What do you want him to do?
Behave like a "benevolent dictator" and simply wave a wand - divining whatever policy he wants? Congress has to approve of legislation before he can sign it into law. Perhaps you are not familiar with the term "bully pulpit". My sense is that we are very close to completion (mid March is drop dead time) and this message surge is meant to persuade wavering Dems to get on board. Durbin was "on message" today also - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/08/dick-durbin-expresses-nee_n_489926.html

29. He should have used the bully pulpit
to try to pass something that we could live with
instead of now trying to pass this travesty when compromises that people like me (who strongly favor single-payer taxpayer funded medical care) could have lived with were thrown out the window at the starting gate.
