Cantor derides Obama's concessions to GOP on healthcare as 'political cover'
By Michael O'Brien - 03/02/10 03:24 PM ET

President Barack Obama's proposed healthcare concessions to Republicans are little more than "political cover," House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Tuesday.

Cantor, the second-ranking Republican in the House, derided a letter from Obama to congressional leaders outlining areas where the president said he's willing to incorporate GOP ideas into his healthcare proposal.

"If the President simply adds a couple of Republican solutions to a trillion dollar health care package that the American people don’t support, it isn’t bipartisanship – it’s political cover," Cantor said in reaction to the letter.

In his letter, Obama said that his healthcare bill, which is set to be unveiled on Wednesday, could include Republican proposals to eliminate medical fraud, reform medical malpractice liability, and eliminate special assistance to certain states.

9. "Might as well ignore them and vote."
That holds true for Blanche Lincoln and several other two bit extortionists in the Senate.

17. It was never Cantor that he was trying to win.
I'm not sure it's Obama and "the Democrats" that need to learn something...

Rs in the house, the senate crew is older and simply deranged, but the house is CHOCK full of young bucks like Cantor and Putnam, greasy pukebags like McHenry and batsnot crazy lunatics like Bachmann ... These people aren't even there to do the people's business, it is simply about propogating the GOP, every second of every day ...

13. That's how they play
For every action, they figure out a way to criticize it. No matter what he does, it will be wrong. He could take a measure that they authored and sponsored and back it and they would vote against it.

15. Isn't that an ACKNOWLEDGMENT. They both, and both parties are in the business of politics
To acknowledge that Obama has political cover is to acknowledge that he's engaged them.

They just don't want engagement. Yet, they have been engaged.
