Does anyone think, the president will finally fight for a PO?
After the summit and the GOP reaction, which was predicted, but thought necessary to show the populace where the GOP stands, the president seemed to express frustration. Does anyone think he might be giving up on bipartisanship despite what he says? Does anyone think there is a possibility that he might re institute those liberal provisions that were inserted to placate the gop , now that it is obvious they will not even support their own ideas?

Candy Crowley did a piece this weekend that focused on the camera that was used only on the president and his reactions during the summit and his frustration was evident.

Does anyone retain any hope that some of this was just political theater and that there is a possibility we might get a good bill after all? I don't consider the Senate Bill any version of good and hope for an intervention. Anyone think there is hope?

4. NO! If 50 Dem senators sign the letter for a Public Option, then maybe, remember....
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 03:44 PM by GreenTea
DLC corporate assholes like Rahm Emanuel are advising the president, Rahm couldn't care less....

But having 50 senators sign, that would be powerful, still, there would only be about a 50-50 chance that Obama would push for the "PO".

Sad.

WE want and need a Public Option at the very least!

From 62% to 68% of the American people (depending on the poll) want a Public Option all across this nation.

How many senators have signed so far - 31 ?

77. Didnt they claim they had 50+ for Medicare-55 (when there was talk they needed 60)?
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 11:40 PM by brand404
Lieberman was the one holding out and the issue was dropped...so now they cant even get 50 for a PO...wtf?!?!
This is very shady...this tells me democrats are just looking for excuses to BE Repubz.

Not no drama Obama. Man doesn't seem to have an ounce of fight in 'em. Middle of the road, don't ruffle feathers, criticism is "retarded", that's his idea. Get it passed and he'll sign it, but he won't lift a finger to "get 'er done".

that the President will fight for Senate Bill which will either contain a PO or be improved in any way, even if we go to reconciliation. Can anyone answer why they think this is? We have proved the bipartisanship doesn't exist and the blue dogs need to be brought to heel, and it appears the president is frustrated. Why wouldn't something be done?

40. Look at us.
Praying for a PO. Begging for a stinking PO. Remember when the PO was the sorry compromise that the administration was going to do instead of single payer. Now we are begging for the sorry compromise. We have been had. Corporate deals were worked out long before this started.

What a waste all that effort that so many tens of thousands expended during the election.

49. How true. PO itself is crap, it only opens up the door for real reform years down
the road. It is in my opinion the smallest thing you could do to actually call it reform. Without it I think the dem's will get clobbered in the next election. People are going to see a mandate that makes them buy crappy for-profit insurance, where they still deny payment on procedures. Without any option of buying something that they can stick with if unemployed or too sick to work.

BS!

toward changing the Senate Bill to include liberal provisions? I did notpresent a false premise.I asked a question. I could argue that your "premise" is equally false but I am glad you responded. However, you do not offer any reasons to assume the president will work toward changing the Senate bill. Do you not think he will?

51. Yeah. Remember back in the summer
when the DU boards were filled with discussion about how good a PO had to be if we would allow ourselves to settle. The faithful were arguing that the president would make sure that it was strong, that it would be better than single payer. Now it is all thrown away. Now even a stupid, badly written bill with something even remotely called a PO isn't possible. The stupid bill will pass and Rahm will call for a celebration for our victory.

94. maybe the repukes will get a majority, since some people have a very, very

I'm for taking back our party. Any democrat or independent, like Bernie Sanders, who represent the majority of Americans, I'll gladly vote for. If the American people think by voting for those same greedheads who for eight years raped and pillaged and lied--if they think the truly corrupted deserve to be in office, then the clueless voters deserve exactly what they get. I am just tired of seeing Washington playing their greedy political games and apparently listening to corporate lobbyists over our best interests. We're drowning while they're posturing.

And, no, I don't think we'll get a PO. Just call it the Insurance Industry Reform bill.

78. No.
It's more than political theater, it's Kabuki theater. The only thing missing is the corporate sponsorship decals on the masks.

79. That would be audatious. I mean with the GOP refusing to do anything in
a bipartisan fashion except start from a blank sheet of paper...it would truly be poetry if obama put the public option back in. Plus it would keep down the costs of HCR.

The Democrats are barely hanging onto the current bill as is.

selling across state lines and health savings accounts. Kumbayah.

90. I doubt it. Why start now?
I think they would rather let it fail then blame it on the liberal left.

It's always the left's fault we're just too radical. :eyes: :hangover:

93. Nope, not a chance.
Barack Obama sold us out, early on. He will pay a huge price for doing so. As of November, he will be a lame duck for the balance of his one term, and he will go down in history as one of the least effective Presidents of all time. He had perhaps the best opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of working Americans, but chose instead to become the corporations prostitute.
