Hill Steps Aside for Ellsworth for IN Senate
Hill Steps Aside for Ellsworth

Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN) will announce today that he will not run for U.S. Senate, Politico reports.

Hill's decision means Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-IN) is now "the strong favorite to capture the Democratic nod in the battle for the Senate seat that Democrat Evan Bayh is departing from after two terms."

1. Ellsworth is way too far Right to even be a Democrat, at least
by some estimations.

This is not a good landscape for progressive voters.

2. Ellsworth needs to step aside so better candidates throw their hats in the ring.
At this point Ellsworth is still not the only candidate that has expressed interest.

3. Hill and Ellsworth are both Blue Dog Democrats.
That's about as Progressive as you are going to get in a conservative state like Indiana.

Below is from GoTrack showing how they fall on a chart based on their politics. They have some in spots I would find difficult to believe.

Look for Jenkins and Hunter (red) towards the top of the chart. Below you will see Donnelly from the 2nd in Indiana and to the left of him is Baron Hill from the 9th in Indiana. Four names down and 1 over to the right is Ellsworth. Senator Bayh is 2 names below Senator Collins (red). Collins is the Republican furthest to the left. According to this graph they (Hill, Ellsworth, and Donnelly) are even more right than Grassley, Hatch, Lugar, McCain, and Shelby.
