Just a quick assessment from my 80 year old mother on how the President and the Democrats are doing
today with this HCR summit.

Unlike others who have come before, and tried to get health care passed, this President just keeps coming back.

He does not take no for an answer.. He comes at you in a different direction.

Just when the republicans think they have it killed again, here comes the President.

or to quote Mom.

"When he could not get it through the front door, he went around the side and came in the window. The republicans have been had"

.. I love my Mom, now you know where I get it..

6. You're great and so is your mom!
Wonderful description - and my only addition would be to say that it is not just the President. There are dozens of people who have been doing exactly as your mom says - the president most prominently and there will be more than can (or will) be named who deserve credit for persevering. It shouldn't have been this hard.

10. Yes, untold numbers of supporters of Health Care Reform
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 02:26 PM by Cha
who are helping him as the President. It shouldn't be this hard but it has never been done before and the craven opposition is almost as determined as the proponents.

11. True - and the one thing I never expected is that even having the bully pulprit of the
Presidency with a very persuasive President it is still tough dealing with the ever increasing echo chamber of the right. It is impressive - if you like lying - that they are able to have talking points with all their media people pushing the same lies at the same time. It is natural that people hearing the same thing from many different (seemingly unconnected) people to thing that it is muti sourced and true.

Here it is amazing that more than half the country things reconciliation is wrong - especially when 2 months ago at least half would have no idea what reconciliation meant in terms of legislation.

12. Reconciliation is so Right! It's part of the
process that the republicans used when bushcheney was in power.

Pass it on. :)

Love Reconciliation.

"Reconciliation is a legislative process in the United States Senate intended to allow consideration of a contentious budget bill without the threat of filibuster. Introduced in 1974, reconciliation limits debate and amendment, and therefore favors the majority party. Reconciliation also exists in the United States House of Representatives, but because the House regularly passes rules that constrain debate and amendment, the process has had a less significant impact on that body."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress)

We're the majority for a very important reason..the last 8 years not only didn't work..they drove our country into the abyss.

19. No, she's right about that
at every set back he finds a new way to capitulate to "the stakeholders" in the hunt for a "win".

Look at how far he was able to get bills through the process by giving away the store and the first born children. It's amazing how if you have no line in the sand and are willing to surrender how much can be accomplished.

When you're willing to concede on affordable quality health care for all, ending the employer based system, setting up national pools, and controlling and/or competing against the insurance cartel monopoly the sky is the limit!

20. Yep. He's not Kucinich, and I'm sure Peacetrain's Grandmother
wasn't expecting Kucinich policies to be enacted.

Sorry if you were.

but he lost.

21. You're very dishonest or have a terrible memory if you think
I was a big Kooch guy. I bet on the same nag you did but believe in what I believe in more than I believe in a politician.

These aren't Kucinich policies but dead down Broadway and very generic Democratic policies. If you're going to cut and paste your canned responses then you ought to have them grouped a little better.
