Dillard awaiting final tally
When he looks at his present shortfall on a per-county basis, state Sen. Kirk Dillard sees the slimmest of margins: just two votes.

Although Tuesday is the deadline for the state's election authorities to submit their final Feb. 2 vote totals to the State Board of Elections, the Hinsdale legislator doesn't expect he will immediately either concede the Republican primary for Illinois governor to opponent and state Sen. Bill Brady or claim victory once the numbers are all in.

"We're just waiting," Dillard said Monday morning, reiterating his resolve to wait until the board has completely finished tabulating the primary results, a process that could take another week and a half.

Dillard noted that the difference between the two candidates' vote totals has shrunk significantly in the three weeks since the election.

"I've cut Sen. Brady's day-after election lead in half, down to slightly over 200 votes," Dillard said week, shortly after the deadline had passed for election authorities to count their absentee and provisional ballots. "I think it's important that we see what the final numbers are after they're canvassed by the 110 local election authorities."
