Shays Not Running for Governor
Former Rep. Chris Shays (R) tells CT Capitol Report he will not make a bid for governor of Connecticut.

Said Shays: "I will not be running for Governor. I would love to be part of the debate. I believe I would win. And I would dearly love to serve and help get our State out of the huge mess it is in. But Betsi and I simply can't make it work financially. After quitting my job to run for Governor and serving four years in office we would be nearly bankrupt, the very problem I would be helping to get the State out of."

2. Shays is not wanted here. Believe me, I know from the people I have talked to.
See ya Shays.

5. I hope so.
Not sure, though. But I will be voting for Ned.

6. We haven't had a Dem Gov since, well I don't remember.
I had to look it up. William O'Neill, I was a kid and don't remember him. I remember Weicker.

I think Ned has a great shot, his polling #'s are good.

7. The only way I remember O'Neill
Is because I remember his name was on certain road signs we'd pass by when my mom was driving me somewhere.

I was 7 when Weicker won, and I remember our grade had a mock election that year. He won the mock election too.

My Dad hated him, for establishing the state income tax. That is about all I remember.

9. Yeah, he caught hell for that income tax.

I do remember "Dump Weicker" stickers all over the place, but I was too young to really understand why people all of a sudden didn't like him.

It's interesting, though, how Connecticut is one of the few states to have had a third-party governor in the past 20 years.
