Why are only 'White' Turkeys Pardoned by presidents?

Is there something wrong with colored turkeys? What's up that anyway?

1. Turkeys in their natural colors are beautiful, but

...they have been bred to lose all color for a reason. Feathers on a natural bird when plucked leave a dark spot on the skin. All of those dark spots have been considered unappetizing. People prefer a clear complexion on their dead fowl. White turkeys are pardoned because it's the white turkeys that are eaten for the most part.

Because they're wild and can fly, there's a risk that they came across the border and are therefore illegal aliens...
