US seeks climate progress despite UN resignation

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States on Thursday saluted UN climate chief Yvo de Boer after his sudden resignation, with a top senator vowing to press forward with the contested Copenhagen accord.

<...>

Senator John Kerry, the chief architect of US legislation to curb carbon emissions, credited de Boer with bringing the world's top emitters -- including developing powers China and India -- to the same table.

Kerry voiced his support for the agreement reached at a UN-led summit in Copenhagen from December 7-19 and called for a meeting late this year in Cancun, Mexico to come up with a full-fledged treaty.

<...>

"The fanatics, naysayers and science deniers will not derail the global community from doing what's right to secure the future of our planet, and in that, our commitment has never been stronger," he said.

1. I do feel better about our Climate Crisis knowing
we have people like Senator Kerry on the job in an Obama administration.

3. Come to think of it ..
Kerry played a big role in getting Obama on the National scene.:patriot::patriot:

So it obviously makes it easier to Progress but still frustrating in a craven corporate atmosphere.

6. No, that is not why these posts are getting unrec, its because they know who is gaming the rec syste
People are onto the folks that are gaming the site. A group of folks work together and rec anything the others post? Several post 10-15 topics one after the other. Then they get enough recs from friends to blast a bunch of **talking points** onto the site.

It really sucks that Democrats are gaming a good site and people don't like it. It is natural that once they catch on they will unrec the worst spammers. Nothing devious about it.

We are all on the same side here, but for some of us we just want honest conversation. It is not a big political game and we don't like the tactics. It is not about the content of these posts.

Actually, the people gaming the site with talking points trying to get the same chart out there 30 or 40 times, those are the ones that are being devious. Tell the folks at OFA or whichever other site these are coordinating from that Progressive Democrats are not stupid people. We would all be better off if they respect us and stop the game playing here. DU is full of progressive and informed people. It won't generally work here.

10. Folks must think progressives are pretty stupid or have contempt for us

We are well educated, we know information is gamed and how it all works. There is no reason for it to be done here.

This site is full of very active Democrats. Many of us listen to progressive radio every day and are active locally. we know what we are up against and what messages we need to get out. We don't need someone gaming us here on DU and calling us names when we won't "get on point". Educated liberals don't work that way.

Some folks will unrec when they see this kind of activity. Sorry for the dose of reality. while there are surely republican operatives here I doubt that is what is going on in this case.
