Palin poses mortal threat to GOP in 2012.
Watching her at the Tea Party conference it is clear to me that she believes she is capable of being president and that she alone deserves the Republican nomination. The party establishment will do everything they can to deny her the top spot on the ticket. But she has ensconced herself as the top wing nut in a group that believes the big guys of the world are cheating them out of their due. I may be wrong but I doubt that Palin can be bought off. When the GOP closes the door on her she will mount a third party challenge that will split the RW in two. Her sense of entitlement will turn to anger at those who have stolen what is rightfully hers. And the band of malcontents and misanthropes that she has championed will demand that she fight on.

As one who marched against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights, I love your name.

28.  Well I'm definitely old.
And you and I can take comfort from being on the side of good. I can't imagine what it is like being a Republican - always afraid that someone, somewhere, somehow is figuring how to give some of my precious money to someone who does not deserve it.

2. I agree with 90% of your post
the other 10% is the part about how she can't be bought off.

I think thats exactly how they will get rid of her. Not with a place on the ticket or the promise of a cabinet position. Just money. She doesn't give a rats ass about the looney tunes who hang on her every mispronounced word. If they offer her enough dough to get lost, the door won't hit her in the ass.

7. You're right.
OF COURSE she can be bought off. She does whatever is in her own best interest.

The rest of the OP falls apart from there. The teabaggers are purists. Nobody but Sarah will be good enough for them. If Sarah were to endorse, say, Mitt Romney, and campaign for him, then the teabaggers might start to question her.

Her existence does spell trouble for the GOP in 2012, that much is certain.

20.  Whether she can be bought off is a function of what is her
main driver : ego or greed. I acknowledge that I may be wrong but I think ego is her main motivator. And she can sock away a lot of money while running.

He and his fellow neocons want someone like her in office; a narcissistic dumbass like Bush they can manipulate.

It should be fun.

13. I've thought that all along, but
I believe she is worrisome for the neo-cons because she tends to not listen to her handlers.

She and her family are also tirelessly high maintenence.

I think the concern would be if she went all rogue-y on the neo-cons and said or did something like nuke Iraq when she meant to nuke Iran, even though her handlers wanted neither.

But, yea, Kristol 'found' Palin for McCain, and is most likely leading the bankrollers now.

But Shadow Dude would prevent something like that from occurring. He runs her and the whole Palin sting operation.

5. Only 8 to 15% of all Americans support Sarah
Survey out, and even mentioned on Fox last year: only 27% of Republicans support her. (Since the Republicans are only 28% fo all Americans and maybe even less than that these days, this means only seven and a half percent of the populace is on her team.)

I know many Republicans who voted for Obama, in part because they thought McCain showed poor judgment in selecting her.

Iowever, I believe that someone in the upper echelons of the Republican party wants her on the ticket. otherwise, she wouldn't have gotten the following

1) her candidacy as Vice President with McCain
2) her continual mention in the media by both liberal and conservative talking heads
3) the fall back position out lined for Republicans - you don't have to like Sarah, but you do need to consider her as a legit candidate because the Democrats are scared of her.

23. how many would have supported dubya in 1997...?
Especially if he was given lots of opportunities to display his buffoonery on national forums three years before 2000?

If Bush and Rove proved anything, it was that astute PR can overcome reality every time.

It will be hugh and their party will be energized, just like after her 2008 speech. But, provided that unemployment has substantially turned around, Obama will win anyway.

22. I'm ambivalent about this....
Edited on Tue Feb-09-10 07:37 PM by mike_c
On the one hand, I would HOPE that a Palin candidacy would be the death throes of a shattered and useless republican party, and I'd pay to watch her burn it all down. On the other hand, Karl Rove proved that the right public relations can put any idiot into the oval office, and unlike dubya, Palin would actually be dangerous. OK, dubya was dangerous too, and did lots of damage, but PALIN?! Palin would do to the entire country what I wished she would do to the republican party in my first sentence.

She scares me, because I now believe that anyone with access to other people's money and hired brains can become president, no matter how shallow or sociopathic they might be.

While Dubya was stupid and misdirected beyond most measures, he was (is?) not crazy, and he did have Poppy Bush as a somewhat moderating influence, evil as poppy bush is he isn't waco crazy.

Sahara Palin on the other hand, that dry vacuous desert of intellect, is certifiably wingshit batnut crazy.

I would be afraid to promote her run, as much as I'd like to see her be the catalyst for a republican implosion, on the fear that she might actually win.

Plus, I hate listening to peppy snark.

25. If there are enough digits on the checks
I don't think she could resist taking it, but I'm not really sure that the GOP establishment is smart enough to show her the door. The Republicans are drifting so far into belfry-loads of bat-shit insane land, that by 2012, they might even think she is too moderate.

31. Although I have had more than my fill..
.. of threads about the Caribou Bimbo, I'll give this one a rec. I think many don't understand the significance that she carries or really have yet figured out that, like it or not, she has a different kind of savvy than your average politico. Tho she might be vacant when it comes to facts or reality or even the ability to put together a coherent paragraph, treating her as "stupid" is a mistake. Her kind of "smarts" runs down a completely different path. Sarah Palin is a master manipulator. She also, as you correctly note, has a giant ego, along with the surety (no matter how mistaken) that she is ALWAYS correct, and ALWAYS a victim when proven dead wrong.

What separates her from your run of the mill manipulator, is her ability to do it from a podium to crowds of people. Yes, I know, most of them are gullible hicks, however, gullible hicks are very proficient at "raisin' a ruckus" and getting noticed. She clearly gets something that the braintrust at the White House clearly doesn't. We the People are pissed off because We the People are sick and tired of getting fucked over by the fatcats. Now, before any of you Obama apologists says it, yes, I absolutely recognize that it's easy to sit outside and snipe, but THAT IS THE REALITY. Obama and crew have the POWER to do something about and haven't. Since she doesn't have the POWER, she can claim that she would without having to do anything.

IT RESONATES WITH POPULISTS. That is the rub.

Team Obama could easily steal Little Miss Tundra's thunder, if they chose to. Do the RIGHT THINGS for We the People, it's that simple. Just quit making pathetic excuse and capitulations and Do the RIGHT THINGS for We the People.

Or don't, and be a one term POTUS.

38. I think the upper elite that makes these decisions
Truly decided to destroy McCain.

I do not think he was given much choice - and since he doesn't really think for himself he did as he was told to do. He has a life chart of a loser - shot down over Vietnam, continually beaten up by people like George W even though both men were Republicans, etc.

Someone somewhere along the line, days before Sarah was offered as VP running mate for McCain, those someones decided they really wanted Obama to win.

(unless it's say, for fossil fuel companies. She would probably balk at bailouts that she didn't understand) and she's far too much of a loose cannon. The powers that be control the Diebold machines, so it doesn't matter how many morons she appeals to; they won't let her win.
