Joe Reardon out as possible House candidate

KCK-Wyco Mayor Joe Reardon won't run for Dennis Moore's House seat, his office says.

The decision is a serious blow to the Democrats as they try to find someone for the race.

The statement:

"Joe Reardon, Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas, today announced that he will not be a candidate for the Kansas 3rd Congressional District.

"Reardon, a well-respected and recognized leader within the state and the region, has been mentioned as a potential Democratic nominee for the seat being vacated by Representative Dennis Moore.

"'I am honored to have been mentioned as a Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District of Kansas and am grateful for the support and encouragement I have received from so many over the last several weeks,' stated Reardon. 'After careful consideration with my family, and in light of the national recession and its impact on our community, I must remain focused on finishing the work we’ve started to help Wyandotte County, and our region, overcome the challenges the on-going economic crisis has created. Therefore, I will not be a candidate for the 3rd District at this time.'
