Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 06:53 AM by AJD48
I just read the post "Wouldn't you know it, the president was correct."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x169641
The point of the post is to document Repub obstructionism.
At the moment the post has 223 recs and generally favorable comments.

Read another way, however, it does not put Obama in such a favorable light.
For it's a description of how much he and his party have allowed a minority opposition to rule,
to defeat him.

My wife and I gave hundreds to his campaign and worked for Obama too.
She's still optimistic about Obama.
I'm somewhat disappointed. I've heard the talk but haven't seen much action, much results.
To be sure, there have been some action and results but nowhere near what I hoped and expected.

The facts of Repub obstructionism that Obama cited may be read as an admission of how he
in effect has allowed the Repubs to rule.

It's nice to have a president who is correct.
And it's nice to have one who pursues bipartisanship and civility.
But when is he going to kick ass and get something done?
I'm beginning to fear the answer is, never.

1. Isn't amazing, a car company lies to the public for years and people forgive them
But a President doesn't give the people everything they want in one year and everyone is ready to throw him out of office.

Focus on an obstructionist party if you want to effect results.

2. For those who are inspired by words, it can keep some optimism intact.
For those who need to see results, not so much. The most glaring disparities between inaction for main street is the over the top action for wall street. There are others. The need to keep the Republican wing of the country involved to the point of inaction on every single act that is necessary to move forward.... The most recent logger jam will now be a jobs bill.

"The bipartisan stirrings coincide with a tentative outreach toward the GOP by President Barack Obama, including a question-and-answer session last week with House Republicans. On Thursday, President Obama met with Senate and House Democratic leaders on Thursday to discuss the jobs bill as well as health care.

Sen. Max Baucus (D., Mont.), who tried and failed to secure Republican support for the Democratic health-care overhaul, has been working with Sen. Charles Grassley (R., Iowa) on jobs legislation for several days. At the same time, Mr. Schumer and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) have been assembling a job-creation tax break for businesses.

Mr. Baucus said Thursday he hopes to unveil a bill "quite soon" and that his goal is to create a "truly bipartisan" package.

But behind-the-scenes disagreements over a range of issues are holding up action. Before signing on to the jobs bill, Mr. Grassley is seeking assurances that the Senate will soon tackle legislation to revamp the estate tax. Democrats, meanwhile, want to inject about $20 billion into the government's highway trust fund, which is facing a shortfall that some lawmakers fear could interrupt highway construction. The request is riling some Republicans who are concerned about the federal deficit, Senate aides said."http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704041504575045301065422576.html?mod=WSJ_article_MoreIn

3. Obama isn't a magician
he doesn't have a magic wand. He has had one of the worst periods in American history to contend with. The problem is our Democratic congress. Congress hasn't had the spine to take on the Republicans.

5. What's your point?
Blame the SENATE RULES. It's really easy to blame Obama for everything instead of holding the actual people responsible for not doing their job. Keep doing that if it makes you feel better, but if you're really interested in results, you'll direct your ire towards the SENATE where EVERYTHING has been held up.
