That's it, Freepers... just keep working to obliterate all reasonable thought from your party.

2. Especially against Giannoulias, who they will tar & feather as a Chicago Bankster
Puts my count at somewhere between 6 - 8 Senate seats at considerable risk (one of which has already flipped).

19. Do any Chicago people here know anything about his family's bank?
It is NOT one of the big banks that created the havoc last fall. Many small banks around the country have failed or have had problems. A real question is what is the truth here. There is a huge spectrum from the fictitious Saving and Loan run by George Baily (It's a wonderful life) and the banks that became Too Big to Fail.

As he is our candidate, it would be good to know. Any insight from Chicago?

His responses on other issues - to some pretty open ended questions were interesting and pretty good.

Let's not immediately take at 100% face value attacks from a losing competitor. Think back to 2008 and the Clinton attacks on Obama. Even in the tamer 2004, Howard Dean made some unfair attacks on Kerry in February 2004 - though he then worked very hard for him in the general election. If the accusations are true as stated and there is no way to mitigate them, there is little we can do. But if they aren't true, are distorted or there is some way to diminish them, we need to 1) NOT SPREAD THEM and 2) actively do LTTE in Illinois.

5. Unfortunately, yes
If one of the crazies made it through the primary, he wouldn't have stood a chance. We can only hope the purists stay home.

9. The tea baggers are the equivalent of the Red Guards under Mao.
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 03:21 AM by Monk06
They are puritanical, ideological purists with
a big ax to grind. They will not tolerate RINOs
and attack them at every opportunity. Whether they
will vote for a moderate in a pinch, nobody knows
except the ballot box.

However, if the Tea Baggers go third party outside
Florida, the GOP is toast in 2012 and maybe toast
after 2016.

Other than a cartoon vision of America circa 1776

The Tea baggers have no vision of where, when, how and who America
should be in the next century except for a pathetic remnant of
19th century imperialist mythology

21. 3 rules of discipline and 8 points for attention differ strongly with your broad brush.
Check it out:

The three rules enjoined

prompt obedience to orders,
no confiscation of peasant property, and
prompt delivery directly to authorities of all items confiscated from landlords.
The eight points were:

Be polite when speaking
Be honest when buying and selling
Return all borrowed articles
Pay compensation for everything damaged
Do not hit or swear at others
Do not damage crops
Do not harass females
Do not mistreat prisoners

Are tea baggers polite ever? And that's just for starters.

He would vote with dems on some things. He's going after traditionally democratic votes. We live in interesting times to say the least.

4. Do they not realize that he is their best chance?
They are so deluded that hardcore conservatives can win anywhere. These days, a moderate Republican is more winnable than a hardcore conservative in Illinois.

Alexi is going to paint Kirk as the Washington Insider (which he is). It might be enough in this anti-incumbent year.

11. Per the recent polls Giannoulias has actually crept past Kirk in the Rasmussen poll
and the PPP poll he is ahead as well. If he actually campaigns unlike someone else we know, he can win that seat.

PPP poll is 42%-34% for Giannoulias on Jan 28th.
Rasmussen is 42%-39% Dec 9th.

Well, if Giannoulias paid attention to Martha Coakley's fate, he'll be smart and fight like a demon until November.

20. Does anyone really know Scott Brown?
I'm not sure which way he will go - at least Romney was moderate/liberal before he was conservative, with Brown it seems to depend on the audience - and then he is vague.

25. Scott Brown is a blank slate, they see that he drives a truck and thus he must be "like them"
Edited on Thu Feb-04-10 05:53 AM by Hippo_Tron
Watching him simultaneously try to appeal to the tea-baggers and to the people of Massachusetts is going to be hilarious to watch once he has to actually start casting votes in the Senate.

Also to be fair, Massachusetts is arguably the most liberal state in the country. Even the tea-baggers probably understand that in certain circumstances a moderate Republican is the best they will get.

I attended one of his town-hall meetings about 9 years ago and thought I was listening to a centrist Democrat.

27. No he isn't.
Scott Brown was pro-choice as of 2002. That's the last time he was on the record as completely pro-choice. Abortion should be safe and legal, he said. But, he was endorsed by the NRLC and all the wingnut organizations that come with it.

Mitt Romney was ALSO pro-choice as of 2002. Where is he now, I wonder?

29. Yet they aren't pissed about pro-choice Scott Brown.
Maybe they're too busy wetting themselves because they won Kennedy's seat to notice that Brown appears not to be terribly conservative, and he is pro-choice. Woder if he's . . . gasp . . . pro-gay rights too?
