Hayworth Sets a Date
Former Arizona Rep. J.D. Hayworth will formally launch his campaign against Sen. John McCain on Feb. 15. Hayworth has been sending plenty of signals that he intended to go after McCain in the Republican primary, so Tuesday's announcement just takes the suspense out of when his campaign would become official.

Hayworth, who is looking to take on McCain from the right, has already indicated he plans to run in the primary, and filed the paperwork to form a Senate campaign committee last week.

He has also established a temporary Web site to collect donations until the full launch.

"This will be one of the hottest races in the country because this will be democracy at its very best," Hayworth said in a statement. "It will be an intense debate between a moderate with a transparent election year conversion and a conservative willing to respect but also stand up to the flip-flops and unreliability of a moderate masquerading as a maverick."

2. I've always loathed Hayworth
especially for his display of arrogance when Al Gore was acting as president of the Senate and had to preside over his own rejection as POTUS. He is truly a despicable person. HOWEVER...........
what happened to the maverick-moderate McCain? He came out today against changing DADT. He has become Palinized,so I don't care if JD wins.

3. Hayworth sets a date, AND McCain is suddenly against repealing DADT
I don't suppose those two events are related.

4. The big loser in this contest is democracy
McCain's catering to the nutty elements within his party has been so obvious it is painful to watch. But it didn't take, they just don't believe he's crazy enough. It should be fun to watch him go further and further out in a sad attempt to suck up to the lunatic fringe, only to lose his seat to somebody who doesn't have to act crazy to get their votes (because he really IS crazy).

Maybe the Dems can find a candidate who can take out Mr Piggy Hayworth in the general election.
