Gregoire endorses Heck in WA 03
Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire is getting involved in the competitive Democratic primary to succeed retiring Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.), endorsing businessman Denny Heck.

“This is a unique time for our country and we believe Denny Heck is a candidate who can win in November and start fighting for Southwest Washington in Congress on day one,” Gregoire wrote in a letter to her leading donors, co-signed by several other leading Democrats in the state.

Heck, a former state legislator, is running against state senator Craig Pridemore and state Rep. Deb Wallace. He made a name for himself founding a statewide public affairs television network, and later invested in start-up media companies. His personal wealth would allow him to self-finance a campaign, a significant asset when Democrats will be defending dozens of seats across the country next year

Gregoire’s endorsement should give Heck a boost with Democratic primary voters. Heck was in Washington last month to meet with Democratic party officials, and members in the state’s delegation.
