For the second time this month, Doug Hoffman conceded the New York special election to Rep. Bill Owens (D-N.Y.), and said he will not legally challenge the results of the race.
"Yesterday, the remaining ballots were counted in the 23rd Congressional District special election. The results re-affirm the fact that Bill Owens won,” Hoffman said in a statement this afternoon.
“Since, the morning of November 4th, many of my supporters have asked me to challenge the outcome of this race. Their concerns centered on the veracity of the new voting machines used, for the first time, in the majority of the eleven counties that make up the Congressional District. Over the past three weeks, we nearly cut Bill Owens' lead in half. Sadly, that is not enough.”
Hoffman’s second concession runs in sharp contrast to his rhetoric last week. Even as he trailed Owens by a near-insurmountable margin, Hoffman alleged that labor unions and ACORN were responsible for electoral fraud and urged his supporters to donate money to help him contest the results of the election.
Hoffman also told talk show host Glenn Beck last week that he would have un-conceded the election.
