1. Wow-- I wish TV would show things like this.
The disconnect with what we are doing over there is amazing in this country. More people need to see this.

Thanks.

11. Me, too. But they never will.
And that is why I can't understand the cadre of DUers who thumb their nose at the idea that the American newspaper is dying.

Have they screwed up in the past? Yes.

But they are the only institutions that will continue to bring us images like this. If the newspapers go, so will work like this. The cablecritters will never take up the slack.

2. wow
I never would have seen this if it wasn;t for DU...thanks so much!

I want the troops home - but I also hope somehow the UN and others (AND the US, in a peaceful way) can help the Afgna people reclaim their country. It is strikingly beautiful...and the people deserve better than to live in squalor...

9. Grandson was stationed there for 18 months, he took
some great photos, we have two CDs of Bagram. An eerily beautiful place at times. He will be going back again soon. Thanks for these.

10. Thanks, Thrill, for posting this. I woudn't have seen them otherwise.
Amazing photos.

A truly stunning and beautiful country.

Looking at them transfixed me for close to 1/2 an hour.

The one of the soldiers sleeping in holes made me cry.

If they are sacrificing so much to do this duty, those of us safe and sound in the United States should be looking at photos like this every day to remind us what they are going through.

Maybe you should have cut and pasted a few of the photos into your OP. For the life of me I can't understand why this hasn't received more views and recs. Maybe it's because it's the weekend.

12. I'm only a 1/3 of the way through, but wow. Incredible images.
This is just disgusting though that our soldiers don't even have the simple necessities such as a new shirt when their old one tears due to carrying a huge pack. We must get these soldiers out of there.

Truly incredible photos. I hope Obama sees these kinds of images.
