Poll question: Do you support continuing & escalating the Afghanistan War?
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 09:10 PM by yurbud
Someone posted in another thread that they have seen many comments here by people supporting the Afghan surge, but I suspect it's the usual astroturfing by a handful who know how to make their numbers seem larger.

So do you support it or not?

I agree with you, I was just trying to make the poll not seem tilted.

4. This war cannot be won! Bring all the troops now!
Afghanistan is Obama's Vietnam, and it will end the same way.

As others have said, and many wiser than I am, this is Obama's Viet Nam, and he needs to stop it ASAP.

8. No, but I recognize that the President is in a tough spot
Afghanistan, like Vietnam, is a rat hole that has little strategic importance. Unfortunately American politics doesn't reward sound policy it rewards perception and people don't like the perception of losing a war.

I think he's looking for a Nixon-esque way to declare victory while simultaneously getting out. I just hope that unlike Nixon the actual policy isn't being set by somebody like Kissinger.

9. No. It's a disaster, and anyone who wants the Democratic Party to own this war is a fool
Edited on Wed Nov-25-09 04:45 AM by LittleBlue
Obama included.

Bush got us into this quagmire, it's his war. It's his mistake. Now, Obama is working 24/7 to own this POS failure. WHY??? Why do we want to own something doomed to fail?

The 24%, you people are doing the Republicans' dirty work for them. Do you realize that when Cheney accuses Obama of dithering, it's an attempt to exert pressure on him to escalate the thing? Because they know it's unwinnable, fools!

13. Another fence-sitter here.
I know (I think?) 'we' originally went into Afghanistan to get bin Laden.
Fair enough, I guess.
We muffed that.
Evidently he headed for parts unknown.
Or maybe Pakistan.
Or he's dead.
Or not.

Now, I don't understand what we're still doing in Afghanistan.
The perp has flown the coop.
I am eagerly awaiting President Obama's explanation later this week.
Seriously.

16. The only people who win what we now define as "war" are defense contractors
and banks (financiers).

So when the repukes put out a memo saying one of the cardinal principles their party members can't defy is "winning in Afghanistan", that means keeping the flow of tax payer cash going to the defense contractors and the financiers.

So why can't Obama cross this red line? We all need to ask ourselves this question.

End this bullshit occupation NOW.
