President Reagan hosted 57 state dinners.
Just putting out that simple, clear fact before the fauxrage that is bound to occur tomorrow.

57 over 8 years. That's 7 state dinners every year, on average.

And the Shrub's father hosted more than 24 -- wow! -- that's 8+ state dinners every year!

Just sayin', preemptively.

1. Why do Repukes point out in others things that they have been guilty of?
I don't even ask that preemptively. I ask it because that's the Republican modus operandi, to finger point in others what Republicans are more guilty of than anyone else.

2. I would actually LIKE MORE state dinners......
.... but I realize that in today's economy, it's not politically sound.

And I also realize that, lol unfortunately, the President I adore is not a china and crystal diplomacy kind of guy.

I can live with one a year.

11. I'm with you
we should bring leaders from other nations, feed them and converse with them. It's hard to be fighting with someone who just fed you a good meal, you know. More Food Less Bombs - for everyone

3. GW* tried to have a state dinner, but nobody showed up.
Apparently, the menu was unappetizing.

4. How about a state dinner for the homeless in DC?
Now, there's something I would cheer. The President and First Lady throw a huge feast for homeless folks on the lawn of the White House. What a concept!

10. Send that idea to the White House ~ it's fantastic
I think it should be in the White House.

If the inside is good enough for the Rethugs it's good enough to the Homeless.

Excellent idea and post

14. I just got this from Michelle..
Cha

Tomorrow, many of us will gather around the table with family and friends to give thanks over a feast of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy -- and let’s not forget pumpkin pie!

But for some in this country, the feast will not be as bountiful. In fact, it won’t be much of a feast at all. Hunger is on the rise in America -- hitting its highest levels in nearly 15 years. A recent report released by the USDA reveals that in 2008 an estimated 1.1 million children were living in households that experienced hunger multiple times over the past year.

"To combat hunger this winter, we’re launching, in coordination with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the United We Serve: Feed a Neighbor initiative -- a program that empowers you with all the resources you need to mobilize against the hunger crisis in your community. Learn how you can get started today:"

Barack and I are committed to doing all we can to end hunger by making food programs more accessible to eligible families. But government can only do so much -- it will take all of us working together to put an end to hunger in America.

That’s why we’ve made it easy for you to get involved at Serve.gov. Find local volunteer opportunities like delivering meals to homebound seniors, offering your professional skills at a food pantry, or planting a community garden and sharing produce with your neighbors. You can also create your own volunteer opportunity using our anti-hunger toolkit.

This holiday season let’s recommit to serving our communities and working together to feed American families. Get started giving back today.

Thank you,

Michelle

First Lady Michelle Obama
The White House

5. I was shocked when I read how many Reagan had done. I thought
The Clintons had the right amount during his Presidency. It doesn't take much for people to get outraged by something Obama has done so it will be par for the course. I hope they have a good time and that it strengthens our relationship with India.

15. And, the Obamas had a Green State Dinner..
<snip>

"State dinner for India a green affair"

n a green affair featuring locally grown food and held on the White House lawn, U.S President Barack Obama welcomed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to his first official state dinner Tuesday night.

The black-tie gala was seen as an important gesture of co-operation between the two countries.

It was held under a tent on the South Lawn of the White House, in keeping with a theme of “the Obamas' dedication to green and sustainable elements,” according to an official White House summary.

The food included vegetables grown in the White House garden; a meatless entree to satisfy Mr. Singh, a vegetarian; and gift bags that included a jar of honey from White House beehives. Locally grown magnolias lined the dinner tent.

WHY INDIA?

In welcoming the crowd to his first state dinner as President, Mr. Obama praised the relationship between India and the United States, the world's two largest democracies.
