Massachusetts: Republican gubernatorial candidate taps gay running mate

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Baker called his new running mate - state Sen. Richard R. Tisei - a champion of the taxpayer.

“He’s got 20 years of a fabulous record as a guy who fights for taxpayers, fights for citizens and knows what’s going on in regular people’s minds,” said Baker today in announcing Tisei as his choice for Lt. governor.

Tisei came out swinging at Gov. Deval Patrick, saying it’s time for a switch on Beacon Hill.

“Somewhere along the way we’ve gotten horribly off track,” said Tisei.

The announcement of the GOP running mate was made at 11 a.m. today at the American Civic Center in Tisei’s hometown of Wakefield.

“Richard has years of experience fighting for the taxpayer on Beacon Hill and I’m thrilled to have him on the team,” Baker said in a statement posted on his campaign Web site before the event.
