How is the GOP putting up with Steele??
The guy seems like a parody, like someone you would see on SNL.

He misspeaks monthly and comes across as an ass.

What is keeping him on board? I can't imagine the racist GOP supporters in the south like him much either.

Is there some benefit he is adding to the party?

1. They can't afford to get rid of him..
and he knows it.

The Party would be called racist and this would be the proof of the pudding, if he were fired.

2. They don't even need to fire him
Duer, kiranon, suggested in another thread, "They will set up another entity and leave Steele with nothing to do."

Not a bad plan until he opens his mouth.

the truth is though most African Americans could care less about Steel.I Listen to African American talk radio mainly Joe(The Black Eagle)Madison, Warren(The Ugliest Man In Radio)Ballentine and most of the listeners and callers can't stand him and Madison has had him on his show several times. When he's on black radio taking questions the man doesn't sound that bad and is talking like a moderate Rethug but in front of the camera he's a lunatic.

4. Too close to the 2010 mid terms to make a major change.
They are stuck with him until 11-3-10.

6. To get rid of him would be politically disastrous for them
probably slightly moreso than keeping him around for right now, anway. :eyes: I wouldn't, however, be surprised if he suddenly decides to *resign* following the midterm elections, particularly if the Repubs make minimal gains, however. Until then, we will continue to be able to be amused and entertained by his wacky antics. His election as RNC chair was, I'm sure, in no small way related to the Repubs need to make some "mavericky" response to President Obama's election. Unfortunately (for them), Steele is NOT, in any way, President Obama's intellectual and/or political equal and Steele has, in fact, proven to be an unmitigated disaster for them. As much as I dislike any Republican, nominating somebody slightly more intelligent and articulate such as former Rep. JC Watts would've probably worked out better for them.
