3. Charming though he be, I don't think the man can fly.
I could be wrong.

7. For a while I really thought Huckabee would be a natural for a
tv "news" show on FOX.

It seemed like a perfect fit: a stark-raving mad apocalyptic preacher on a network that serves as a propaganda arm for the Republican Party.

What's not to like about that combo, provided as a viewer you are already floridly nuts?

But he's sounding more and more like an inevitable primary candidate.

6. If the economy is still bad for ordinary people, my guess is
Romney will be their choice. Of course, that's opinion of a Dem!

8. Hi, napi. Well, I never feel completely at east writing Romney
out of the script.

He is loaded with cash, with an ego to match, and visibly wants the job.

This could get real rough real soon out there in Republicanland.

9. Will shoot another candidate from 200 yards and not bother to hunt it down for a clean kill.
What a fucking asshole.

10. A reference to Pawlenty's recent deer episode?
I don't think Tim did himself many favors with that stunt, especially given that he zoomed off to an Iowa political event almost immediately after pulling the trigger.

11. Yes, media event. Sure, he can hit it from 200 yards - but not a clean kill.
That's just irresponsible. And his buddies decided to have lunch before going looking for the poor creature. I doubt he gives a shit.

12. And really, he left us no room to reach any other conclusion.
Very bad form on the part of ambitious Tim Pawlenty.

13. Almost as bad as joking about WMD's under the desk or "Bomb, bomb, bomb. Bomb bomb Iran".
Not that anyone would be a big enough asshole to do either of those things.

14. Those were repulsive conceits by two extremely poor excuses for public
servants.

I still cringe at Bush's heartless joke. It's no wonder as a kid he blew up frogs with firecrackers.

16. What a scumbag.
It is really sad that there are so many dumbfucks in this country. It is bad enough that they think Bush was a good president, but now they want (wink) Palin (wink). How can people be that stupid?

17. Several posters on DU have hit the vein on that question. It's a really
good question, too.

They feel that there is a tradition of anti-intellectualism in the U.S., long-standing and fiercely held.

While he was campaigning against Eisenhower, a supporter called out to Adlai Stevenson, "You have the vote of every thinking person in the country, sir!" Stevenson replied, "That won't be nearly enough. I'll need a majority." (I paraphrase, but am very close)

There's also the ferocity of fundamentalism, which Dubya and now Caribou Barbie exploit without a second thought. Or without even a first thought.

15. One provocative question for me is what happens to the GOP race
Edited on Sun Nov-22-09 02:44 PM by saltpoint
in New Hampshire if Palin or someone else upsets Huckabee in Iowa, presuming Huckabee does enter the race and presuming he is more-or-less a frontrunner in Iowa.

New Hampshire does not strike me, especially, as Huckabee country.

Is Romney favored there, or another of the potential candidates?

If Palin does not win in Iowa and goes rogue on a third-party effort, and Huckabee does not enter the primary race, who gets her nutbag voters? I wouldn't think Romney.
