If they don't want to cut Medicare fine - let's cut the defense budget by 10%
to pay for health care reform. I wonder how the Republicans would fight against that if Democrats proposed it.

6. We explain to the American people that
if you cut the defense budget by 10% you could save between $65 and 70 billion each year. The U.S. would still be spending at least $650 billion each year to provide for the defense of this country.

France, England, China, and Russia don't spend anything near $650 billion on their defense and they are not in any danger. Why is the U.S. any different in this regard.

5. Not gonna happen. We're hostages. Here's how that would play out...
Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 09:03 PM by FormerDittoHead
The democrats would never do it, because they're cowards.

If they cut it by as little as 10%, (I'm with the others, 25% would be a MODEST cut) "the blood of the next soldier who would die would be on the hands of those commie-liberals".

I'm honestly beginning to think what happened to Russia is happening here, complete with Afghanistan.

9. Too late
the overall defense budget was raised by 4% for 2010.
that's even higher than any of Bush's defense budgets.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The White House said Tuesday that President Barack Obama would approve the Defense Department's $680 billion budget for fiscal 2010, which includes funding to increase military personnel and support the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan...more

12. We desperately need to cut it 10% per year
until we're in line with what other countries spend.

No more Imperial force scattered across the globe. No more over engineered hardware that breaks down if you look at it wrong. Just a basic, well trained and well supplied defense force that no one in the rest of the world would want to fuck with. That's plenty.

Empire is for the rich.

National security requires we cut the Pentagon budget and spend it on rebuilding strategic industries we'd need if the world erupts into war again. It requires rebuilding our infrastructure, including the power grid. It requires making sure the population is fed and healthy.

Empire is not working for us. We need to discard it and forcing the generals to make tough decisions and close the welfare office the Koch brothers have enjoyed so long is the first step.
